As a Assistant Cook, you work side by side with our lead cooks to keep the kitchen running at full capacity. You ensure ingredients are prepped and ready, stations stay stocked and organized, and food safety standards are upheld throughout every shift. Your support is essential to the kitchen’s pace, quality, and consistency — and your contributions show up in every dish we serve. Shift will be Tuesday, Friday and Saturday 4pm-10pm. Part time shift
What You Will Do
Production Support
- Assist in preparing proteins, sauces, and other hot items according to the instructions of the lead cook and kitchen manager
- Support cooking, reheating, cooling, and storing food — ensuring temperatures are accurately recorded at every stage
- Carry out ingredient prep and keep the production area constantly stocked throughout the shift
- Restock the line with proteins and sauces as needed during service
Food Safety & Organization
- Properly label and organize food items, respecting expiration dates and FIFO (First In, First Out) rotation
- Clean and sanitize equipment, utensils, and surfaces during and after the shift, following company standards
- Strictly follow all food handling and safety procedures
- Inform the manager of any missing ingredients, quality issues, or damaged equipment immediately
Shift Communication & Kitchen Support
- Assist with shift-to-shift communication — document what was prepared, cooled, or left ready for the next day
- Support lead cooks in organizing the kitchen for store opening and closing
- The night shift Assistant Cook assists with closing duties, including cleaning tasks across areas as needed
- Support other kitchen stations when necessary
- Participate in deep cleaning and kitchen organization projects
- Assist with training new Assistant Cooks when directed
Teamwork with a Customer Focus
At Aubergine Kitchen, we are all responsible for providing an excellent customer experience. In addition to your daily tasks, you may also be asked to assist in other areas during busy periods or downtime, such as:
- Clearing bowls and utensils from tables after use
- Helping clean and organize the dining area (tables, chairs, floor)
- Restocking disposable utensils, napkins, and bags at the self-service station
- Supporting the team or other departments as needed, always keeping customer satisfaction as the priority
What We Are Looking For
- Ability to communicate in English, Spanish, or Portuguese — our kitchen team operates across languages and you should be able to work effectively in at least one of them
- Willingness to learn from lead cooks and follow instructions carefully
- Sense of urgency and ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Good communication and teamwork
- Organized and detail-oriented in prep work and station maintenance
- Punctual, responsible, and proactive
- Flexibility to adapt to kitchen priorities and a positive attitude when priorities shift
- Commitment to hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety standards
Education & Experience
- Must be at least 25 years of age — we are looking for experienced, mature kitchen professionals who bring real discipline and knowledge to the role
- Prior experience in a restaurant or professional kitchen is required
- Must successfully complete Aubergine’s training program and position-specific training
- Food Handler Certificate required within 14 days of hire — company support provided
Physical Requirements
With or without reasonable accommodations, must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Available to work 30–40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays — Aubergine is closed on Sundays and on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the 4th of July
- Ability to stand and move around for extended periods
- Ability to lift, push, and carry items up to 50 lbs (approx. 22 kg)
- Good physical stamina and agility in a fast-paced environment
