CONTROLLER
POSITION SUMMARY
JB Vang is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller who is responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial reporting functions, regulatory requirements, and company policies for our family of companies. This position manages companies’ banking relationships, treasury activities, and cash management, while also providing leadership for Human Resources functions, including payroll, benefits administration, employee relations, and compliance with employment laws.
The Controller serves as a strategic partner to executive management by providing financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and operational guidance to support the companies’ growth and financial stability. Our companies comprises of real estate development, real estate investments, real estate management, community bank and other single asset companies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management & Accounting
- Direct, perform and oversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable (disbursement requests, pay application & invoicing), payroll, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and chart of accounts.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and financial forecasting.
- Monitor organizational financial performance and provide recommendations to management.
- Coordinate annual audits, prepare schedules for external auditors and tax returns.
- Develop and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Oversee company’s insurance; general liability, property & casualty, professional liability, umbrella and other risk mitigation
Banking & Treasury Management
- Manage all banking relationships with financial institutions.
- Oversee cash management, cash flow forecasting, and liquidity planning.
- Reconcile bank accounts and monitor daily cash balances.
- Administer lines of credit, commercial loans, and other financing arrangements.
- Coordinate loan compliance reporting and covenant monitoring.
- Evaluate banking products and services to optimize financial operations.
- Oversee electronic banking systems and payment security.
Human Resources Management
- Direct, perform and oversee all Human Resources operations.
- Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and employee orientation.
- Administer employee compensation and benefits programs.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Maintain employee records and HRIS systems.
- Coordinate employee performance evaluation processes.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures.
- Manage workers' compensation, unemployment claims, and leave administration.
- Support employee relations, conflict resolution, and organizational development initiatives.
Payroll Administration
- Oversee payroll processing and ensure timely, accurate payroll.
- Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements.
- Coordinate year-end payroll reporting, including W-2 preparation.
- Monitor payroll deductions, benefit contributions, and garnishments.
Leadership & Administration
- Develop departmental goals, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with executive leadership on strategic planning initiatives.
- Present financial reports to senior management and the Board of Directors, as applicable.
- Recommend improvements to financial systems and business processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related finance/accounting field required.
- CPA designation preferred.
- Master's degree is a plus.
Experience & Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA or CMA)
- Banking or financial institution accounting experience
- 5 - 7 years of progressive accounting and financial management experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role.
- Experience managing banking relationships, treasury functions, and commercial lending.
- Previous Human Resources management experience preferred.
- Experience supervising accounting and administrative staff.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Thorough knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Strong understanding of banking operations, treasury management, and cash flow planning.
- Knowledge of payroll processing and employment regulations.
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks accounting software, bank core system and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.

JB Vang is a boutique real estate development company that develops and manages a portfolio of real estate assets, community bank and other investments. We offer a compensation package that includes a competitive salary between $100K - $150K per year, depending on qualifications, PTO, paid holidays, sick & safe time, medical and dental insurance, long-term disability, life insurance, 401K match, profit sharing, and a cash benefit plan.
Pay: $100,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
