American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma teaching hospital in North Carolina, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and the ability to float within a regional hospital system.

Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma teaching hospital designated as a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence

32-bed unit serving a post-surgical patient population with common diagnoses including small bowel obstructions, general surgery (colectomy, colon/small bowel resections, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, thyroidectomy), kidney stones, pneumothorax, bariatric surgery, rib fractures, hip fractures, joint replacements, and cellulitis

Patient ratios of 1:4–6 RN, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8

12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

No on-call responsibilities

Floating required within Region 1 (Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division including CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH) — candidates who are not agreeable to floating should not apply

EMR: Epic (experience required)

Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Masimo monitors, and remote telemetry monitoring

Active NC RN license or compact RN license required
-
Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Proficiency in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, NG tubes, ostomy care, drains, wound care, continuous bladder irrigation, tube feeds, and cardiac rhythm interpretation

Candidates must have a permanent address at least 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Unit support includes NA+ CNAs (4 per shift), 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, respiratory therapy (RT) 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, intensivist 24/7, and a resource nurse as staffing allows

Remote telemetry monitoring and tech support available

Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; if contracted hours cannot be met, time must be added to the end of the contract

Schedule is posted on a 6-week cycle
