Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Assistant Production Manager to support our manufacturing operations. This role involves assisting in overseeing daily production activities, ensuring adherence to safety standards, and maintaining efficient workflows. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge and a commitment to safety protocols, contributing to the continuous improvement of our production processes. Responsible for safe and efficient production and shipping operations on the 1st shift. As a key member of the plant’s management team, actively assists the Plant Manager and participates in the development of the plant’s objectives.
JOB DUTIES
· Oversees all aspects of plant production and shipping activities.
· Plans, schedules, organizes and supervises activities of crew members.
· Directs the production operations personally and through the 2nd shift Production Supervisor.
· Participates in Operations short and long range business planning activities to optimize plant performance.
· Attends daily production meetings on the daily running and operations of the plant.
· Monitors production and daily loads ensuring adherence to quality standards.
· Schedules production requirements to support daily, weekly and monthly sales forecast to meet customer’s needs.
· Works with the Purchasing Supervisor to ensure adequate production supply inventory and submit requisitions for any needed materials.
· Participates in the scheduling of repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment to ensure continuous production operations.
· Recommends improvements in maintenance and production processes and techniques in order to promote more efficient operations.
· Recommends operational changes to senior management when necessary to ensure that production quotas and procedures are met.
· Participates in the recruitment process which may include screening and hiring hourly production employees.
· Inspects work in progress and at completion to ensure the standards of safety and workmanship are maintained.
· Prepares production and other reports.
· Motivates, supports, and develops hourly employees to meet company goals.
· Ensures that employees receive proper training and instructions to perform job duties.
· Fosters an environment of team work within and among all departments.
· Knows, understands, complies with, and enforces the company’s IIPP, safety handbook, Company Policies.
· Ensures compliance with Company policies during his shift.
· Complies with, and enforces MSHA, state and federal environmental and laws and regulations.
· Walks and inspects the plant site on a daily basis.
· Learn and use the CMMS program for all work order and project type work entries.
· Ensures that established operating procedures are followed for all department functions and processes.
· Manages, investigates, and reports accidents, incidents and near misses.
· Documents and communicates any known or potential employee issues to the Plant Manager.
· Participate in disciplinary procedures and communication.
· Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
· BS degree in Engineering (Mining/ Civil, Mechanical/ Materials/ Mineral Processing); preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible experience in supervising activities. Experience in industrial mining operations preferred.
· Strong computer skills preferred (Microsoft 365 products). Understanding of production, shipping, and sieve analysis.
· Knowledge and understanding of operation, maintenance, and repair of heavy mobile equipment including scraper, loaders, dozers, and forklifts
· Strong leadership, organizational, prioritization, and decision-making skills.
· Teamwork, creativity, and problem analysis skills.
· Solid written and verbal communication skills.
· Strong mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
WORK DEMAND AND ENVIRONMENT
· Personal protective equipment is required on a regular basis, as needed, including hard hat, hearing protection, eye protection, hard-toed safety shoes or boots, dust mask respirator, protective clothing, gloves and other personal protective equipment.
· Employee may be exposed to dusty and noisy environments and may be working occasionally in extreme weather conditions including heat, cold, wind and rain.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb ladders and up to 8 flights of stairs, shovel material and work on elevated platforms.
· Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds. Duties
- Assist in coordinating daily production schedules to meet quality and delivery targets
- Support adherence to safety standards in all aspects of manufacturing, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Monitor production processes for compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety regulations
- Collaborate with team members to identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains
- Assist in training staff on equipment operation, safety procedures, and quality standards
- Ensure proper handling and heavy lifting techniques are followed during material movement
- Maintain accurate documentation related to production activities, safety incidents, and equipment maintenance
Experience
- Proven mechanical knowledge relevant to manufacturing environments
- Experience working within manufacturing or industrial production settings
- Familiarity with safety standards in production environments and GMP guidelines
- Knowledge of PPE use and safe heavy lifting practices
- Prior experience supporting or assisting in production management roles is preferred
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

Pay: $95,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
