Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and technically oriented Technical Sales Engineer to support customer development, RFQ management, technical sales, costing, and program activities within the automotive manufacturing industry.
The role will work closely with customers, suppliers, engineering, purchasing, and program management teams to understand customer requirements, identify appropriate manufacturing solutions, develop competitive quotations, and support programs from RFQ through production.
1–2 years of relevant experience is preferred, particularly in automotive manufacturing, technical sales, engineering, purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage customer RFQs from initial inquiry through quotation and award.
- Review 2D drawings, 3D models, specifications, materials, tolerances, and customer requirements.
- Identify suitable manufacturing processes and suppliers based on part requirements.
- Develop and analyze cost estimates and quotations, including material, tooling, machining, processing, labor, freight, and other cost elements.
- Coordinate with suppliers to obtain competitive pricing, lead times, capacity, and technical feasibility.
- Communicate directly with customers regarding technical and commercial requirements.
- Support new business development and identify opportunities with existing and prospective customers.
- Prepare technical presentations, quotations, cost comparisons, and other customer-facing documentation.
- Coordinate internally with engineering, purchasing, quality, and operations to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Support new program launches, prototypes, tooling, production readiness, and customer timing requirements.
- Track RFQ and program activities and proactively follow up on open actions.
- Research automotive manufacturing technologies and identify potential applications for the company’s capabilities.
- Support VA/VE, cost reduction, and productivity initiatives.
- Develop and maintain strong customer and supplier relationships.
- Travel occasionally for customer and supplier meetings, trade shows, and business development activities as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of relevant professional experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and commercial stakeholders.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple RFQs/programs simultaneously.
- Willingness to learn and take ownership of projects.
Preferred Skills
· Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, PLEX, or similar platforms.
· Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes such as machining, stamping, forging, casting, extrusion, tubing, and cold forming.
· Basic understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, materials, and manufacturing processes.
· Experience with Excel functions such as Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, and data analysis.
· Familiarity with automotive suppliers or Tier 1/Tier 2 supply chains.
· Ability to work independently and demonstrate a proactive, ownership-oriented approach.
