Field Technician
Summary
We are seeking an experienced Field Technician Ill to perform diagnostics, repairs, preventive maintenance, and emergency field service across a diverse fleet of oilfield and heavy equipment. This is an advanced, self-directed position for a technician who can travel between job sites, evaluate equipment issues, make safe repair decisions, source parts, and return equipment to service with limited day-to-day oversight. The technician will coordinate with drill crews, pump crews, shop leadership, and local vendors.
Equipment Supported
- OTR equipment, including roadside breakdowns between job sites.
- Light-duty trucks, crew trucks, trailers, bumper-pull trailers, and gooseneck trailers.
- Drill rigs, workover rigs, pulling units, mud pumps, shaker systems, lift pumps, centrifugal pumps, and related support equipment.
- Compressors and pneumatic support systems.
- Backhoe, forklift, telehandler, and other heavy mobile equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and operational issues in the field.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and urgent field repairs on assigned equipment.
- Evaluate multiple equipment problems, identify safety and operational priorities, and develop practical repair solutions.
- Diagnose diesel engines and supporting systems, including starting, charging, sensor, connector, and wiring issues.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic systems, including pumps, valves, cylinders, hoses, fittings, leaks, and pressure-related issues.
- Diagnose pneumatic and air-system concerns, as well as draw works and winch-related operating systems.
- Repair electrical systems using test equipment, wiring diagrams, service information, and diagnostic tools.
- Support drill crews and pump crews while maintaining safe, professional job-site operations.
- Source repair parts from local vendors and identify alternate repair solutions when needed.
- Maintain the assigned service truck, tools, equipment, and work area.
- Document labor, diagnostics, repairs, parts, and follow-up needs in electronic work orders.
- Communicate equipment status, repair needs, parts requirements and operational blockers to leadership and the administrative team .
Qualifications
- 1O+ years of hands-on diesel equipment repair experience, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- 2+ years of direct experience maintaining and repairing oilfield industry equipment, or equivalent related heavy-equipment experience.
- Advanced working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatic systems, draw works, pumps, compressors, and heavy-equipment operating systems.
- Strong electrical troubleshooting ability, including wiring repairs, sensors, connectors, relays, charging systems, and starting systems.
- Ability to use service manuals, wiring diagrams, diagnostic software, and electrical test equipment.
- Proven diagnostic ability, critical-thinking skills, and the ability to think through complex problems in the field.
- Ability to work independently, manage time, and make sound decisions with limited supervision.
- Comfortable using a computer and completing accurate electronic work orders.
- High school diploma or GED required; vocational diesel, heavy-equipment, or technical training preferred.
- Valid driver license and acceptable driving record required.
- Manufacturer certifications, CDL, welding or fabrication experience, and diagnostic-software experience are preferred.
