Job Summary
The Direct Service Professional (DSP) provides one-to-one support to an adult with developmental disabilities in his own apartment and in the community. This position focuses mainly on supporting daily self-care routines and helping and ensuring the client safety and successful participation in structured afternoon and evening routines
The DSP works independently while following guidance from the supervising BCBA. Reliability, patience, and comfort with personal care and behavior support are essential.
Preference will be given to RBT's with active certification.
Key Responsibilities
Self-Care & Daily Routines
- Support and complete daily self-care routines such as toileting, bathing, brushing teeth, grooming, dressing, and hygiene after bowel movements.
- Provide hands-on assistance as needed, which may include exposure to bodily fluids (urine, feces, or blood), while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Help the client follow a consistent routine to support comfort, cooperation, and independence.
Behavior Support & Safety
- Help the client manage behaviors by following established guidelines and routines.
- Watch for early signs of frustration or distress and respond calmly to prevent escalation.
- Provide continuous supervision to keep the client safe at home and in the community.
Health & Medical Support
- Give medications as prescribed and directed.
- Support the client during seizure activity by keeping him safe, monitoring symptoms, timing the event, and providing comfort before and after the episode.
Home & Community Support
- Assist with simple daily tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry, and safety awareness.
- Accompany the client to appointments and community activities and remain with him at all times.
Documentation & Professional Expectations
- Complete daily notes and required documentation.
- Communicate updates and concerns to the supervising BCBA.
- Arrive on time for all scheduled shifts and minimize callouts (24-hour notice preferred).
- Follow confidentiality and safety guidelines at all times.
Pay: $28.00 - $35.00 per hour
