Position Summary & Responsibilities: Administrative Specialist
The Kansas Department of Labor is seeking a highly organized and motivated individual to join our Wichita office as an Administrative Specialist. This full-time position is crucial to the smooth operation of our office and plays a key role in supporting daily administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Ensure the Wichita office is open for business at 8:00 a.m. and properly secured at 5:00 p.m. at the end of each workday
-
Handle daily interactions with walk-in customers, incoming phone calls, and correspondence from various sources, providing accurate and timely responses
-
Address customer inquiries appropriately and make necessary referrals within the unit to resolve issues
-
Perform general office administration tasks, including ordering supplies and maintaining inventory
-
Manage landlord interactions and report updates to the Topeka Workers Compensation Operations staff
-
Process mail and respond to customer inquiries via email and phone
-
Answer incoming phone calls and direct them as needed
-
Schedule meeting rooms and assist with meeting coordination
-
Greet and assist visitors for court-related matters, meetings, or other government business
-
Assist with additional administrative tasks as required
Skills & Qualifications:

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
-
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and deliver exceptional customer service
-
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Minimum Requirements:
-
High School diploma or equivalent.
-
2 years technical or administrative experience in community or public service programs
Post-Offer, Pre-Employment Requirements:
- State of Kansas Tax Clearance Certificate. The successful applicant (even non-residents) must obtain a valid Kansas Certificate of Tax Clearance by accessing the Kansas Department of Revenue's website within 10 days of the date the applicant has been offered the employment position. A Tax Clearance is a comprehensive tax account review to determine and ensure that an individual's account is compliant with all primary Kansas Tax Laws. A Tax Clearance expires every 90 days.
