Job Summary
We're hiring a General Manager to own daily operations at the museum. You'll build and manage the staff schedule, lead the frontline team, and serve as the go-to person on the floor — handling everything from guest escalations to shift coverage. You'll report to our COO, who handles hiring strategy, HR infrastructure, and the bigger-picture direction of the business, so you're free to focus on running a tight, well-staffed, guest-ready operation every day. We are seeking someone with experience being a GM and building schedules for a reasonable sized group of employees.
Responsibilities
Staffing & People Management
- Build and publish the weekly/seasonal schedule
- Manage time-off requests, call-outs, and same-day coverage
- Run shift check-ins and cover where needed
- Lead first-line performance management — coaching, write-ups, and (with COO sign-off) terminations
Daily Operations
- Act as manager-on-duty — the person staff and guests go to when something goes wrong if owners are not on site
- Oversee opening/closing procedures, cash handling, and safety checks
- Handle guest escalations in real time (refunds within policy, complaints, incidents)
- Monitor ticketing flow, check-in lines, and tour pacing alongside other leads
- Enforce policies consistently (age minimum, no-refund policy, gallery routing) alongside other leads
Site & Vendor Coordination
- Handle day-to-day building/facilities issues
- Coordinate with contractors or vendors on-site when owners are not on site
- Manage inventory for guest-facing supplies (merch, tickets, consumables) if needed
Reporting
- Provide weekly staffing/attendance summaries to the COO
- Flag larger issues (HR concerns, guest incidents, safety) that need COO or ownership input
- Recommend schedule or staffing changes based on floor observations
Experience
- 2+ years in a management role, ideally in hospitality, retail, museums, or attractions
- Proven experience managing a team and building schedules
- Calm under pressure — you can handle a guest complaint and extreme crowds
- Strong communicator, both with staff and leadership
- Flexible availability, including weekends, evenings, and October's peak season
