Kalamazoo College seeks an energetic, student-centered Assistant Coach for Cross Country and Track & Field to support the growth and success of our programs. Reporting to the Director of Cross Country and Track & Field, this full-time, benefits-eligible role offers a meaningful opportunity to mentor student-athletes, contribute to a competitive NCAA Division III program, and build strong relationships across campus and the broader community.

In this role, you will:
- Assist with recruiting prospective student-athletes in alignment with NCAA, MIAA, and institutional standards
- Plan, organize, and execute team practices, training sessions, and competition preparation
- Lead and coordinate training for the sprint, hurdle, and jumps groups, while supporting field event athletes and coaching staff
- Contribute to the overall administration and daily operations of both cross country and track & field programs
- Monitor compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and institutional rules and regulations
- Instruct Physical Education classes as assigned by department leadership
- Participate in departmental initiatives, events, and campus committees
- Support student-athlete development on and off the field through mentorship and engagement
- Represent the program in interactions with recruits, families, alumni, and the campus community

We’re seeking someone with a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred) and many of these traits:
- Bring at least 3 years of coaching experience—or an equivalent combination of education, coaching, and collegiate competing experience
- Have demonstrated expertise in sprints, hurdles, and jumping events, with familiarity in multi-event training
- Are passionate about the student-athlete experience and committed to academic and athletic excellence
- Understand NCAA Division III and MIAA rules—or are eager to build that expertise
- Are a strong recruiter who can connect with student-athletes and their families
- Communicate clearly, build relationships naturally, and work effectively with diverse groups
- Are organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously
- Take initiative, work independently, and contribute positively in a team environment
- Are committed to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and high-performing program culture
Kalamazoo College is a proud NCAA Division III institution and member of the MIAA. Our Cross Country and Track & Field programs have a rich tradition of success, including numerous All-Region and All-MIAA performers, multiple individual champions, and conference titles. The track & field program recently resumed competition in the 2025–26 academic year, adding new energy and opportunity for growth.
The Kalamazoo College men’s cross country program was established in 1919 and became an MIAA sanctioned sport in 1922. The women’s program was established in 1982.
The program has produced two All-Americans on both the men’s and women’s teams. Both programs have produced a total of 42 All-Region runners
(17 men and 25 women).
- The women’s program has ten Top 10 Regional finishes and placed 3rd in the MIAA in 2024.
- The women’s program boasts two MIAA MVP’s, two MIAA Individual Champions, and 44 All-MIAA performers in program history.
- The men’s program has produced two MIAA MVP’s, 13 MIAA Individual Champions, and 49 All-MIAA honorees.
- The men’s program has won 13 MIAA championships and finished third in 2025.
Kalamazoo College sponsored indoor and outdoor track and field program for student-athletes for the first time since the early 1980’s beginning in the 2025-26 academic year. The Men’s and Women’s and team competed in the MIAA indoor and outdoor seasons highlighted by one MIAA indoor champion (Men’s 5000 meters) and a dual runner-up in the MIAA outdoor championships (Women’s 1500 and 800 meters) who narrowly missed the NCAA Championship meet.
