Garfield Montessori School is a nonprofit Montessori school located in Denver's Park Hill neighborhood, serving children ages 2.5–6 years old. Our mission is to foster independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning through authentic Montessori education and a strong sense of community.
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and energetic Aftercare Coordinator to join our team as soon as possible. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with young children, building relationships, and creating engaging afternoon experiences in a supportive school environment.
Job Summary
The Aftercare Coordinator is responsible for helping create a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for children attending our afternoon program. This role includes supporting classroom teachers, planning age-appropriate activities, supervising children during aftercare hours, and assisting with end-of-day classroom cleanup.
Responsibilities
- Provide supervision and care for children ages 2.5–6 years during the afternoon aftercare program.
- Support classroom teachers by covering scheduled afternoon breaks.
- Plan and facilitate engaging projects, games, outdoor activities, and enrichment experiences for children.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment that supports children's social-emotional development.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children in your care.
- Maintain clear communication with teaching staff and school leadership.
- Assist with light cleaning and classroom organization at the end of each day, including sanitizing materials, tidying activity areas, and preparing spaces for the following morning.
- Follow all school policies and Colorado childcare licensing requirements.
- Manage behavior using positive discipline strategies and effective behavior management techniques
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Experience working with preschool-aged children (ages 2.5–6) required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
- Reliable, organized, and able to maintain a positive attitude in a busy school environment.
- Interest in Montessori education is preferred but not required.
