The Petitions Section is seeking ambitious and driven individuals with strong analytical, written communication, and verbal communication skills to join our team as an Associate Tax Auditor (ATA).
The Associate Tax Auditor will be responsible for:
- Reviewing newly filed appeals, creating the appropriate appeals case, and acknowledging the case via letter to the taxpayer.
- Reviewing petitions assigned to field offices to ensure petitions are being completed.
- Reviewing audit working papers, case files, and recommendations to determine if case is ready to move to the next level in the appeals process or ready to close.
- Preparing closing recommendations for cases that are ready to close.
- Analyzes and responds to phone inquiries and written correspondence from taxpayers, representatives, field offices, or other Headquarters units.
- Representing CDTFA at appeals conference either in person or via Microsoft Teams.
The ATA for this position will also be responsible for becoming familiar with:
- California Revenue and Taxation Code.
- California Tax Regulation.
- CDTFA Opportunity Systems.
The Associate Tax Auditor position in the Petitions Section is an excellent opportunity for you to learn and apply California's tax laws, in addition to sharpening your verbal and written communication skills. Under Government Code 14200, this position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California. All telework/hybrid schedules require staff to report to the office a minimum number of days per week. Schedules are subject to change.
Currently, per the California Budget Act of 2025, all California Department of Tax and Fee Administration salaries are subject to the provisions of the State of California’s Personal Leave Program.
