The Medical Assistantwill be responsible for scheduling, transportation, and procedures for ensuring receipt of medical treatment and medication administration for people supported residentially. The Medical Assistant is the agency designated contact person for physicians and other medical professionals including therapists and pharmacies.
- Ensure all required physician documentation and staff documentation is obtained and maintained to meet medication administration requirements and ensure appointments are scheduled in a timely manner to meet each individual's medical needs.
- Schedule and coordinate medical, dental, therapy, specialty, and other healthcare appointments, including transportation arrangements.
- Escort and accompany individuals to doctor appointments and other medical appointments as needed, ensuring appropriate communication between the individual, healthcare provider, guardian, and agency staff.
- Enter and maintain medical appointments, medical information, physician recommendations, and other healthcare-related information in the electronic health records system.
- Check medications monthly and whenever medication changes occur. Ensure current physician orders are maintained for all medications and that medication education is provided to individuals and DSPs as appropriate.
- Ensure Medication Administration Record (MAR) data entries are accurate, current, and consistent with current physician orders.
- Conduct monthly audits of residential medication closets to ensure medications are properly stored, labeled, secured, current, and maintained in accordance with agency policies and applicable regulations.
- Enter and maintain required information for annual FL-2 packets prior to scheduling and completing appointments. Ensure medical-related documentation and healthcare consents are current and properly maintained.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for physicians, pharmacies, therapists, hospitals, specialists, and other medical professionals regarding the healthcare needs of individuals supported.
- Coordinate and communicate with guardians and legally responsible persons regarding medical appointments, medication changes, medical recommendations, healthcare concerns, and other medical needs.
- Communicate and deliver medical-related information, medication information, appointment instructions, and healthcare needs to the individual's residential home, Qualified Professionals, DSPs, guardians, and other appropriate parties to promote the overall health and well-being of individuals supported.
- Follow up with healthcare providers, pharmacies, and other medical professionals regarding orders, referrals, test results, medication changes, and recommended follow-up care to ensure continuity of services.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with medical personnel, agency staff, individuals supported, guardians, legally responsible persons, and other members of the individual's support team.
- Protect the confidentiality of all medical, personal, and agency information in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies.
- Attend all required agency staff meetings, trainings, and meetings related to the individual's healthcare needs.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all medical coordination, appointments, communications, medication-related activities, and follow-up activities.
- Identify and communicate potential medical concerns or changes in an individual's health status to the appropriate Qualified Professional, supervisor, guardian, and/or healthcare provider.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
Education Requirements:
· High School Diploma or GED
· Valid NC Driver’s License
· Prior experience in the health care field is preferred
