The Opportunity:
Whittier Street Health Center is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist and Lab Assistant to join our team. In this role, you’ll support the delivery of high-quality laboratory services by collecting and processing specimens, assisting with waived and moderate-complexity testing, and ensuring accurate documentation. This position is ideal for someone detail-oriented and patient-focused, who is eager to contribute to advancing health equity in Boston’s diverse communities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collect blood and specimens from pediatric and adult patients (venipuncture, fingersticks, heel sticks)
- Prepare, process, and track specimens for testing and transport
- Perform select waived and moderate-complexity lab procedures under supervision
- Review test request forms for accuracy and billing requirements
- Document requests, results, and issues in laboratory logs and QA logs
- Deliver and distribute lab reports, ensuring timely follow-up
- Instruct patients on proper specimen collection techniques
- Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs) when required
- Maintain lab cleanliness, equipment, and supply inventory
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education preferred
- Completion of an accredited phlebotomy certificate program required
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Phlebotomist or Lab Assistant in a clinical setting
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
