Senior Youth Engagement Specialist
POSITION DESCRIPTION: Rebound’s Residential programs offer group home and shelter services to up to 12 young people between the ages of 14 and 21 each day. Services are delivered at two group homes: Jelani House in St. Paul and Naima House in Minneapolis. The Lead Youth Engagement Specialist will help Rebound deliver holistic programming and services 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Under the supervision of a mental health professional, the Lead Youth Engagement Specialist promotes a safe and welcoming environment for all residents and their families.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
● Bachelor’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences AND knowledge of mental health services AND one year of clinical experience;
OR
● Enrolled in an accredited Master’s program AND trained in working with youth in a clinical setting
OR
● Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
● Master’s Degree in Behavioral Sciences plus 2 years of clinical experience
Required license(s):
● Valid driver’s license required
● First Aid/CPR certificate within 6 months of hire.

Rebound’s Senior Youth Engagement Specialist will:

- Desire to support, encourage, and accommodate youth to move away from systems-involvement toward their full potential; and
- Help guide youth to make amends as needed, learn new skills, and navigate past and present traumas and to support our youth in their journey of healing.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
These examples do not include all possible tasks in this work and do not limit the assignment of related tasks in any position of this classification. Regular attendance according to the position’s management-approved work schedule is required for all positions.
- Supervise residents in the house and during recreational activities in the community.
- Intake support for case manager(s) including administering and scoring screenings for new residents within prescribed timelines.
- Implement Individual Safety & Behavioral Modification Plans as co-developed with Clinical case manager.
- Evaluate, document, and monitor progress toward goals and objectives.
- De-escalation and crisis support as needed to support residents’ case plan goals.
- Role model positive interactions for residents and colleagues.
- Co-facilitate psychosocial groups.
- Work collaboratively with the youth, case manager, staff, and administrators to identify, support, and document progress toward resident behavior modification goals on progress trackers, in self-reflection files, and through youth modules.
- Ensure clear, accurate, and timely documentation by self and co-workers.
- Provide immediate response in crisis situations. Maintain safety for residents and community.
- Ensure compliance with house schedule, rules, and expectations.
- Other tasks as assigned to support Rebound’s programming/mission.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
● Knowledge of human development, family dynamics, and systems, including crisis management and cultural competency.
● Knowledge of community resources and funding sources.
● Knowledge of medical diagnoses, medications, and basic medical terminology, as well as medical insurance processes and procedures.
● Knowledge of statutes, rules, and policies pertaining to social work and the ability to research the same.
● Comprehensive knowledge of computer software and information systems.
● Interviewing, negotiation, and listening skills.
● Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
● Knowledge of evidence-based practices including assessment, case planning, and cognitive interventions.
● Knowledge of criminal behavior and/or juvenile delinquency.
● Knowledge of basic psychology.
● Knowledge of group dynamics.
● Knowledge of the criminal justice system in Minnesota; working knowledge of the functions of its component parts.
● Ability to make decisions under stress, while abiding by Departmental and State policies and guidelines.
● Considerable ability to work effectively with youth, families, County workers, staff, and community partners in a professional manner.
● Ability to work in a team to accomplish tasks, plan, and resolve problems.
● Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
● Ability to apply departmental policies and procedures to assigned duties.
● Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Senior Youth Engagement Specialists are expected to work on site as well as in the community with youth.
COMPENSATION: Full-time, non-exempt position. $24-$26/hour, DOQ
