Provides leadership for the high school instrumental music program. Works with high school head band director to organize and carry out a practice schedule. Coordinate assigned activities with the school calendar. Supervise all assigned activities and performances. REQUISITE EDUCATION AND SKILLS:
- High School Diploma, Bachelor’s Degree Preferred.
- Be able to set drill dots and rehearse drumline sectionals.
- Strong background in marching band or the marching arts with percussion as a specialty.
- Experience with subgroups of percussion (Snare, Bass, Tenors, Mallets, etc.)
- Ability to tune/replace drumheads and do minor repairs on drumline equipment.
- Applicant should have the ability to inspire students and build enthusiasm.
- Applicant should have strong organizational and communication skills.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: (including but not limited to the following)
- Helps develop and coordinate off-season activities (rookie camp/clinics).
- Establishes performance requirements, enforces academic requirements, and verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Assists with the implementation of drumline trips in accordance with district policy and regulations as well as student interest and ability.
- Assists with the planning, rehearsing, and directing of musical experiences for the school and community.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Assist in teaching drill, choreography, and movements for marching/drumline show.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
- Teach drumline basics: warm-ups, marching technique, and stick work.
- Choreograph and teach “Chop Squad” drumline shows/cadences.
- Maintain inventory of percussion supplies, materials, and equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the ability to effectively communicate and interact with other staff and the public through the
use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment such as, but not limited to, a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions will be required.
