Duties
- Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature.
- Prepare examination rooms with necessary supplies and ensure cleanliness and readiness for patient visits.
- Perform basic clinical procedures such as phlebotomy (blood draws), medication administration under supervision, and wound dressing changes.
- Manage electronic health records (EHR/EHR systems), ensuring accurate documentation of patient encounters, medical histories, ICD coding, and treatment plans.
- Support hospital medicine and outpatient services by coordinating appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical records efficiently.
- Provide patient education on medications, procedures, and post-treatment care while maintaining a compassionate and professional demeanor.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations including Basic Life Support (BLS), physiology knowledge, anatomy understanding, and hospital experience standards.
Skills
- Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, pharmacology, and anatomy to support accurate clinical documentation and patient care.
- Proven experience in dermatology, urgent care, hospital medicine, or emergency medicine environments with inpatient or outpatient exposure.
- Strong proficiency in EMR/EHR/EMR systems for managing electronic health records seamlessly.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy accurately and efficiently while adhering to safety protocols.
- Excellent patient service skills with a focus on intake procedures, vital signs collection, and medical-surgical support.
- Familiarity with ICD coding practices for proper diagnosis documentation; experience with Level II trauma center standards is a plus.
- Competence in medical assisting tasks such as medication administration and basic life support certification.
- Experience working within geriatrics or PICU settings is advantageous for providing specialized patient care in diverse populations.
