The Pool Operator at Spa Castle Urban Resort is responsible for the safe, clean, and efficient operation of the resort’s hydrotherapy pools, spas, and water treatment systems. This position plays a critical role in maintaining proper water quality, sanitation, circulation, and equipment performance throughout our 140,000 sq. ft. wellness facility.
The Pool Operator performs routine water chemistry testing, chemical adjustments, equipment inspections, cleaning, preventive maintenance, and operational documentation. The position works closely with the Maintenance Department and management to ensure all pools and water features meet company standards and applicable health and safety regulations while providing guests with a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesPool Operations & Water Quality
- Perform scheduled water chemistry testing for all pools, spas, hydrotherapy pools, and other water-based amenities.
- Monitor and maintain appropriate chlorine/sanitizer levels, pH, alkalinity, water temperature, and other required water-quality parameters.
- Make appropriate chemical adjustments based on test results and established operating procedures.
- Inspect pool water throughout the day for clarity, cleanliness, unusual color, debris, foam, or other signs of water-quality issues.
- Monitor water levels, circulation, flow rates, temperatures, and overall pool operating conditions.
- Ensure pool chemicals are properly measured, handled, stored, and labeled.
- Immediately report unsafe water conditions or chemical readings outside acceptable operating ranges.
- Close or restrict access to pools when water conditions may present a health or safety concern and notify management immediately.
- Assist with draining, cleaning, refilling, and reopening pools when required.
Pool Equipment & Mechanical Systems
- Inspect and monitor pumps, filters, chemical feeders, controllers, strainers, valves, piping, heaters, and circulation systems.
- Check equipment for leaks, unusual noises, pressure changes, loss of flow, overheating, or other signs of malfunction.
- Perform routine cleaning of filters, baskets, strainers, skimmers, and related pool equipment.
- Perform backwashing and other routine filtration procedures according to operating requirements.
- Assist with basic troubleshooting and minor repairs of pool and water-treatment equipment within the employee’s training and qualifications.
- Notify the Maintenance Manager of equipment deficiencies, mechanical failures, leaks, or repairs requiring additional technical support.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe pool mechanical rooms and chemical storage areas.
- Assist maintenance personnel and outside pool contractors with repairs and equipment servicing when required.
Cleaning & Facility Readiness
- Inspect pools and surrounding wet areas regularly throughout the shift.
- Remove debris from pools and assist with skimming, vacuuming, brushing, and other pool-cleaning activities as needed.
- Ensure drains, grates, pool edges, steps, handrails, and other pool components remain clean and in good condition.
- Identify and report damaged tiles, loose fittings, sharp edges, broken drains or grates, and other potential safety hazards.
- Support opening and closing procedures for pools and water amenities.
- Help ensure all pools are clean, operational, and guest-ready before opening and throughout operating hours.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation
- Maintain accurate water chemistry logs, temperature records, inspection records, and chemical usage documentation.
- Complete required readings and inspections according to established schedules without missing or falsifying entries.
- Follow all applicable health department requirements, safety procedures, manufacturer instructions, and company policies.
- Follow proper procedures for handling chlorine, acids, sanitizers, and other pool chemicals, including required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain current Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and follow chemical storage and separation requirements.
- Immediately report chemical spills, leaks, equipment failures, contamination incidents, or unsafe conditions.
- Assist management with health department inspections and other regulatory inspections.
- Follow established procedures for responding to fecal, vomit, blood, or other contamination incidents.
- Participate in preventive maintenance programs designed to reduce equipment failures and operational downtime.
Teamwork & Guest Service
- Work closely with Maintenance, Pool & Sauna, Housekeeping, Guest Services, and management to maintain safe and high-quality pool operations.
- Communicate water-quality or equipment concerns clearly during shift changes.
- Respond promptly when team members or management report concerns regarding pool temperature, water clarity, cleanliness, or equipment performance.
- Maintain a professional appearance and provide courteous assistance when interacting with guests.
- Report guest safety concerns or unusual incidents to management immediately.
- Assist other facility departments with operational needs when appropriate.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating commercial pools, spas, aquatic facilities, water parks, hotels, resorts, or similar facilities strongly preferred.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification required or must be obtained within the timeframe established by the company after hire.
- Knowledge of commercial pool water chemistry, sanitation, filtration, circulation, and chemical treatment systems preferred.
- Ability to accurately perform and interpret chlorine/sanitizer, pH, alkalinity, and other water chemistry tests.
- Basic mechanical knowledge of pumps, filters, valves, piping, chemical feeders, and related pool equipment.
- Ability to recognize unsafe water conditions and respond appropriately.
- Ability to maintain accurate logs and complete required documentation.
- Basic computer skills for completing operational records, work orders, and reports.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures consistently.
- Ability to work independently while communicating effectively with management and other departments.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, early mornings, evenings, and other shifts based on operational needs.
- Bilingual Korean/English is preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to frequently walk and inspect pool areas, mechanical rooms, and wet environments.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and work around pool equipment.
- Ability to lift and move chemical containers, equipment, and supplies within company safety guidelines.
- Ability to work in warm, humid, wet, and occasionally noisy environments.
- Ability to safely wear required PPE when handling pool chemicals or performing maintenance activities.
Work Environment
- On-site presence required; flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, or during emergencies and inspections.
- Work is performed around swimming pools, hydrotherapy pools, mechanical equipment, water-treatment systems, and pool chemicals.
