Monday–Wednesday: 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Tuesday & Thursday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Friday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Remote Work Day)
Role Summary
The Community & Family Engagement Coordinator supports the implementation of FLOC's Community & Family Engagement initiatives by coordinating participant recruitment, family engagement, volunteer management, community outreach, and partnership activities. This position serves as a primary point of contact for families, volunteers, and community partners while ensuring a welcoming and connected experience throughout the student journey.
The Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day coordination, relationship management, event logistics, volunteer support, and maintaining accurate engagement data.
Key Responsibilities
Family Engagement & Student Recruitment
- Coordinate participant recruitment, enrollment, orientations, and onboarding for FLOC programs.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with youth and families through regular communication, resource sharing, and ongoing support.
- Assist families with program navigation, referrals, attendance concerns, and access to community resources.
- Coordinate family workshops, meetings, celebrations, and engagement activities that strengthen family involvement and student success.
Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement
- Support the recruitment, screening, onboarding, orientation, scheduling, and recognition of volunteers.
- Coordinate volunteer placements across tutoring, mentoring, career exploration, special events, and community service opportunities.
- Maintain regular communication with volunteers to ensure a positive experience and encourage long-term engagement.
- Track volunteer hours, participation, and required documentation.
Community Outreach & Partnerships
- Coordinate community outreach efforts, including resource fairs, school events, neighborhood activities, and partner engagement opportunities.
- Maintain relationships with schools, community organizations, businesses, and local agencies to expand awareness and participation in FLOC programs.
- Represent FLOC at community events and assist with outreach presentations and informational sessions.
Program Operations & Events
- Coordinate calendars, registrations, event logistics, meeting preparation, materials, supplies, and participant communications.
- Assist with planning and executing volunteer appreciation events, family engagement activities, community events, and partnership meetings.
- Support cross-departmental initiatives that connect families, volunteers, and community partners with Academic Success & School Support and Youth & Alumni Programs.
Data & Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate participant, volunteer, and partnership records within organizational databases.
- Track enrollment, family engagement, volunteer participation, outreach activities, and community partnership metrics.
- Prepare reports, success stories, and data summaries that support grant reporting, organizational learning, and continuous improvement.
About the Team
The Community & Family Engagement Coordinator is a member of FLOC's Youth Success & Community Engagement team and reports to the Manager of Community & Family Engagement. This role works closely with Program Specialists, program managers, volunteers, schools, and community partners to ensure students and families remain engaged and supported throughout their participation at FLOC.
The team is passionate about creating meaningful connections that help students thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Collaboration, communication, and relationship-building are at the center of the team's work as they coordinate recruitment, volunteer engagement, family events, community partnerships, and outreach efforts that strengthen FLOC's impact across Washington, DC.

You are someone with:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Social Work, Education, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- One to three years of experience in community engagement, family engagement, volunteer coordination, youth development, or nonprofit programming.
- Experience working with diverse youth, families, volunteers, schools, and community organizations.
- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience planning events, coordinating volunteers, and maintaining program records.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, CRM or database systems, and virtual communication platforms.
- Commitment to equity, community collaboration, and FLOC's mission of empowering youth and families.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
