Position Summary: This position is on the Bankruptcy Team in Revenue Recovery. Contact is made with debtor customers via telephone and written correspondence, performs asset research, income research, responsible party research, and determines the approval that will resolve the case in the least intrusive and efficient manner. Prepares and processes tax warrants. Establishes wage assignments and payment plans. Reviews newly assigned bankruptcy cases through the use of the integrated collections system to ensure appropriate documents are filed with the Bankruptcy Court Clerk. Examines tax returns of both business and individual income tax accounts and litigation cases to determine liability of debtors. Makes final determinations on taxes to abate or access. Reconciles and adjusts debtors accounts on line. Prepares payment vouchers and approves and processes tax refunds. Applies the rules and regulations of the Federal Bankruptcy Code in computing tax liabilities of business and individual income accounts and in construing and applying Kansas tax statutes. Prepares responsive answers and motions or attorney's review and signature. Reviews discharged bankruptcy cases to determine dischargeable tax debt. Other tasks includes such case resolution activities as preparing partial and special releases, processing waiver of penalty request and PFA's, adjusting accounts, initiating refunds, preparing referrals for audit and criminal investigations, revising tax liens, preparing and documenting case transactions and history in ACM. The majority of the cases involve individual income tax accounts and inactive business accounts, including withholding, sales and excise taxes. This position is telework eligible.
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of experience in interviewing, investigating, or providing technical assistance to clients, customers, or the public, and two years of experience in auditing or accounting support work.
Preferred Experience: Prefer at least one year's experience utilizing the internet, creating documents in Word or WordPerfect, six months experience in Excel and email package. Ability to: communicate factual information and ideas orally and in writing; deal with people in an impartial manner; retain self-control in stressful situation; establish and maintain working relationships with the public and fellow employees; make determinations based upon tax laws, rulings, precedents and reference materials related to taxation.
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: KBI and FBI fingerprint required due to access to Federal Tax Information files in KDOR systems.
