Primary Purpose:
The Volunteer Coordinator provides strategic leadership for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Uplift Education’s network-wide volunteer engagement program. The position exercises independent judgment in establishing volunteer recruitment strategies, developing operational processes, cultivating community partnerships, advising campus leaders on volunteer engagement practices, and ensuring volunteer programs effectively support organizational priorities, scholar success, and family engagement initiatives. Provides functional leadership and oversight of network volunteers but does not directly supervise employees.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Develop and oversee network-wide volunteer recruitment strategies that align volunteer engagement initiatives with organizational priorities, family engagement goals, and campus needs.
- Design and conduct training sessions and orientations for volunteers to familiarize them with school policies, procedures, and expectations, as well as specific roles and responsibilities.
- Build and steward community partnerships to secure resources, incentives, and recognition opportunities that encourage scholars’ academic success, attendance excellence, and positive school culture.
- Build out and manage Uplift’s volunteer management platform to ensure campus and network volunteer opportunities are widely promoted.
- Consult with campus leadership to assess volunteer needs, determine appropriate volunteer utilization strategies, and recommend solutions that maximize volunteer effectiveness.
- Provide ongoing support, supervision, and feedback to volunteers to ensure that they are effectively contributing to the district’s goals and objectives, as well as addressing any issues or concerns that may arise.
- Develop and implement recognition programs and events to acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of volunteers, fostering a sense of appreciation and community within the network.
- Plan and execute the annual Volunteer Appreciation Celebration to acknowledge top volunteers across all Uplift campuses and the annual Big Event, providing volunteer opportunities for scholars.
- Maintain accurate records of volunteer activities, hours, and achievements, as well as relevant contact information and background checks, using appropriate database and tracking systems.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, school staff, and community partners regarding volunteer-related matters, disseminating information, updates, and opportunities through various channels such as email, newsletters, and social media.
- Interpret organizational policies and recommend appropriate actions to ensure volunteer programs comply with applicable policies, safety requirements, and risk management standards.
- Exercises independent judgment in establishing volunteer engagement priorities, developing volunteer program standards, evaluating program effectiveness, resolving operational issues, and recommending improvements that impact volunteer services across the organization.
- Performs other duties and special projects as assigned in support of organizational priorities.
Education, Experience, and/or Certification(s)
- Education Requirements: A high school diploma is required. Bachelor’s degree in Education, Public Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- Experience Requirements: Applicant should possess one year of experience in volunteer coordination, specifically with parent volunteers. Preferred experience working in PK-12 education and community outreach or
- Special Skills/Certifications: Ability to use effective and persuasive communication skills for relationship building. Must be able to train and manage a large number of volunteers across numerous initiatives.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively interact and build relationships with diverse groups of people.
- Bilingual Skills: Spanish required.
- Technology:
- Proficient in using the latest versions of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and mail merges; email and web searches.
- Experience utilizing volunteer management systems to analyze participation trends, evaluate program effectiveness, and support strategic decision-making.
- Ability to manage and interpret data using Uplift’s volunteer management system.
- Role Knowledge:
- Knowledge of volunteer management principles, best practices, and strategies, as well as relevant policies and procedures.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and needs.
- Ability to evaluate competing organizational priorities and independently recommend solutions that best support network goals.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level is low to high and may have frequent interruptions. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature. Some initiatives may fall during a time of inclement weather, or an employee may be asked to perform duties during seasonal cold or hot temperatures. Most duties are performed indoors, in typical office or venue working environments.
Hybrid work environment. Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Dallas/Ft Worth and surrounding areas (reimbursement for mileage included). Events may be hosted outdoors or indoors in varying weather conditions.
Starting Salary: $55,000
