We are seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who can help design, build, and launch our platform from the ground up.
Position Overview
The Senior Software Engineer will work directly with the company founder and product leadership to translate business concepts into a secure, scalable, and user-friendly product.
This is a highly hands-on role. The successful candidate will contribute across backend development, frontend development, database design, cloud infrastructure, API integration, automation, and technical architecture.
The engineer will also help build internal tools supporting our live-commerce operations, including inventory management, product cataloging, pricing analysis, order reconciliation, and operational reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Product Development

* Develop user registration, authentication, account, and profile functionality
* Build card-search, collection-management, want-list, and trade-list features
* Develop user-to-user trade proposals, counteroffers, acceptance, and trade-history workflows
* Build messaging, notification, reputation, and trust-related functionality
* Create administrative tools for managing users, cards, inventory, listings, and trades
* Develop mobile-responsive interfaces suitable for desktop and mobile users
Backend and API Development
* Design and develop backend services using Java and Spring Boot
* Build secure RESTful APIs for frontend, mobile, and third-party integrations
* Design service boundaries and scalable application architecture
* Integrate card-catalog, pricing, marketplace, shipping, and notification data sources
* Develop business logic for card variants, languages, conditions, grading, ownership, and trades
* Implement role-based authorization and secure access controls
* Create reliable background jobs and data-processing workflows
Frontend Development
* Develop user-facing applications using React and related frontend technologies
* Translate product requirements and design prototypes into functional interfaces
* Build reusable frontend components and consistent user experiences
* Optimize frontend performance, responsiveness, and accessibility
* Collaborate with product and design resources to improve collector workflows
Database and Data Engineering
* Design PostgreSQL data models for users, cards, sets, collections, inventory, listings, prices, and trades
* Build reliable data-ingestion and synchronization processes

Live-Commerce and Internal Operations
* Build internal tools supporting Pokémon card sales on Whatnot and other channels
* Develop inventory tracking and product-numbering workflows
* Support auction preparation, listing creation, and sold-item reconciliation
* Automate order, shipping, inventory, and profitability reporting where platform access permits
* Help create dashboards for sales, inventory cost, gross margin, repeat buyers, and product performance
* Reduce manual work through Python-based automation and system integration
Cloud, DevOps, and Security
* Deploy and maintain applications on AWS
* Design cloud infrastructure appropriate for an early-stage production platform
* Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines
* Implement logging, monitoring, testing, backup, and recovery processes
* Maintain Git-based development and code-review practices
* Apply secure-development standards for authentication, personal data, APIs, and cloud resources
* Help ensure the platform can scale as users, inventory, and transaction volume grow
Technical Leadership
* Recommend practical technology and architecture decisions
* Balance development speed with security, scalability, and maintainability
* Establish coding standards, technical documentation, and development processes
* Review code and provide guidance to future engineers or contractors
* Evaluate third-party tools, APIs, data providers, and infrastructure services
* Help define the long-term engineering roadmap

Preferred Qualifications
* Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field
* Experience using Python for automation, data processing, analytics, or backend services
