About the Role.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented VA Disability Attorney to join our team. In this role, you will represent veterans in appeals for disability compensation before the VA Regional Office, Board of Veterans’ Appeals and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC). Responsibilities.
- Represent veteran clients in appeals at the VA Regional Office level, including Higher-Level Review, Supplemental Claims, and Board of Veterans' Appeals (BVA) proceedings
- Handle appeals to the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims (CAVC), including drafting and filing briefs and other pleadings
- Draft, review, and revise legal briefs and other case documents with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Conduct legal research on veterans' benefits law, VA regulations, and relevant case law to support case strategy
- Review and analyze VA rating decisions to identify errors, evaluate the strength of a claim, and determine appropriate next steps
- Communicate directly with clients to explain case status, gather information, manage expectations, and provide clear guidance throughout the appeals process
- Evaluate cases to determine the best strategic path forward (e.g., HLR appeal, Supplemental appeal, BVA appeal, etc.)
- Collaborate closely with paralegals and support staff to ensure deadlines are met, case files are organized, and client needs are addressed efficiently
- Stay current on changes in VA law, regulations, and CAVC precedent
- Occasionally represent clients in BVA Hearings
Qualifications.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
- Active law license in good standing (state bar admission required; admission to practice before the CAVC preferred or willingness to obtain)
- Current VA accreditation required (accreditation to practice before the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs)
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in VA disability law preferred
- Experience using Filevine or similar case management software preferred
- Strong legal research and writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and well-organized briefs
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients in an understandable way
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high-volume caseload with attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively with paralegals, support staff, and other attorneys in a team-oriented environment
- Compassion for and commitment to serving the veteran community
Preferred Experience.
- Experience litigating before the CAVC
- Familiarity with VA's rating schedule and disability evaluation criteria
- Prior work at a veterans' law firm, VA Regional Office, Board of Veterans' Appeals, or CAVC
Pay: $85,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
