Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and responsible Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this role, you will operate various types of vehicles, including buses and paratransit vehicles, to safely transport passengers across designated routes. Duties
- Safely operate buses, paratransit vehicles, and school buses in accordance with traffic laws and company policies
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting passengers, including children and seniors, with boarding, seating, and exiting vehicles
- Follow all emergency response procedures for transportation incidents, including CPR and first aid protocols when necessary
- Maintain communication with dispatchers and team members using clear and effective language to respond quickly to traffic changes or unexpected situations
- Conduct vehicle inspections before and after shifts to ensure mechanical safety and compliance with vehicle codes
- Manage behavior and enforce safety policies among passengers to promote a secure environment
- Assist with loading heavy luggage or mobility devices while adhering to safe lifting techniques
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for bus driving and passenger transport
- Proven experience in bus driving, school bus operation, or paratransit services
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, emergency stop procedures, defensive driving techniques, and traffic laws applicable to commercial driving
- Ability to respond swiftly to traffic changes and emergency situations using quick decision-making skills
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities
- Mechanical knowledge for basic vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance awareness
- Experience working with children or seniors; understanding of childcare or senior care policies is advantageous
- Ability to perform heavy lifting safely when assisting passengers or handling luggage or mobility aids
- Familiarity with behavior management strategies to ensure passenger safety and comfort
- Excellent writing skills for completing logs, incident reports, and route documentation
