Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and versatile Maintenance Technician to manage all preventative and responsive maintenance needs for our four childcare centers located in Lewisville, Plano, McKinney, and Frisco, TX. This is an hourly, non-exempt position that requires a dependable individual who can work independently, prioritize tasks across multiple locations, and ensure a safe, clean, and functioning environment for our children and staff. Reliable transportation and a clean driving record are essential.
Key Responsibilities
The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
1. Preventative Maintenance & Safety Checks (70% Focus)
- Grounds Maintenance: Regularly inspect, maintain, and touch up playground surfaces, including artificial turf, pour-in-place rubber surfaces, and other play structures to ensure safety compliance. Maintain all outdoor landscaping (mowing, trimming, weeding) and irrigation systems as needed.
- Building Systems: Conduct routine inspections and scheduled maintenance on HVAC units, replacing filters and coordinating with licensed professionals for complex repairs. Clean and maintain air vents and duct registers regularly.
- Aesthetics & Upkeep: Perform frequent touch-up painting of interior and exterior walls. Maintain the visibility and integrity of parking lot striping and curb paint. Regularly replace light bulbs and fixtures across all centers.
- Structural Integrity: Perform routine checks and minor repairs on roofing, gutters, and downspouts to prevent water damage. Inspect and repair basic wear and tear on cabinets, doors, windows, and furniture.
- Seasonal Preparation: Execute comprehensive winterization activities (e.g., insulating pipes, checking heating systems) to prevent critical component freeze-ups and ensure centers are operational in cold weather.
2. Responsive Maintenance & Repairs (30% Focus)
- Rapid Response: Provide quick response and resolution to unexpected maintenance issues reported by center directors.
- Plumbing: Address and repair minor plumbing issues such as clogged drains, leaky faucets, running toilets, and minor pipe leaks.
- General Repairs: Troubleshoot and fix broken equipment, hardware, and minor electrical issues (e.g., outlet/switch replacement, resetting breakers).
- Project Management: Coordinate with and oversee specialized external vendors (e.g., licensed electricians, plumbers, roofers) when complex or permit-required work is necessary.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of verifiable experience in general building maintenance, commercial property maintenance, or a related trade. Experience in a school or childcare setting is a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proven proficiency in multiple areas of maintenance, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, and landscaping.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to safely lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and perform physical work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Transportation: Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and be willing to travel daily between our four locations (Lewisville, Plano, McKinney, Frisco).
- Soft Skills:
- Self-Management: Must be highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage time and prioritize tasks across multiple locations effectively.
- Safety Focus: Strong commitment to safety procedures and maintaining a child-safe environment at all times.
- Communication: Excellent communication skills to interact professionally with center staff and provide clear reports on work completed.
Compensation & Schedule
- Pay: Competitive hourly rate based on experience and skills.
- Schedule: Generally standard business hours (e.g., 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday – Friday), with flexibility required for occasional emergency repairs or work that must be completed during non-operating hours (evenings/weekends).
- Tools: Company may provide a maintenance budget or essential specialized tools; however, the technician is expected to possess their own basic set of hand tools.
