ASSOCIATE ARCHITECT (PERMANENT INTERMITTENT)– FACILITIES AND DEVELOPMENT/NORTHERN OR SOUTHERN SERVICE CENTER
The reporting location for this position is either the Northern or Southern Service Center located in Sacramento and San Diego respectively. This position will work under the general supervision of the Senior Architect.

The Department of Parks and Recreation is offering a rare opportunity to join California State Parks as an Associate Architect designing park facilities throughout Southern California. The Associate Architect is responsible for the design and implementation of a variety of facility improvement projects including, new buildings, accessibility improvements, deferred maintenance, historic building restorations and repairs, and other associated improvements to park facilities. Project responsibilities are from inception through to completion and include programming, design, production of construction documents, estimating, bidding assistance, and construction administration support. As part of an in-house multi-discipline team, the Associate Architect also oversees consultant work and coordinates work with the other design and resource professionals. These and other duties will be accomplished under the general supervision of the Senior Architect.
Candidates for this position need a strong working knowledge of the California Building Code, including the State Historic Building Code and Accessibility regulations. Candidates must have the ability to prepare contract documents using CAD programs (AutoCAD, REVIT) and should also be familiar with writing and editing specifications and creating project construction cost estimates. The ability to produce presentation graphics and renderings is also a highly desired skill. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential to assist with project coordination and quality control.
Training and Development Assignments may be considered.
This position may work up to 1500 hours per year.
This position is designated as telework eligible-office centered.
A certificate of registration as an Architect issued by the California State Board of Architectural Examiners is required.
