Responsibilities
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as buses, school buses, or paratransit vans to transport passengers in accordance with traffic laws and company policies
- Provide excellent customer service by assisting passengers, including children and seniors, with boarding, seating, and exiting vehicles
- Maintain clear communication with passengers and team members using effective verbal skills in English or multilingual settings
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure mechanical safety of the vehicle, addressing minor issues when necessary
- Manage behavior and ensure passenger safety through effective behavior management techniques during trips
- Follow scheduled routes accurately while adapting to real-time traffic conditions to meet timing expectations
- Document trip logs, incident reports, and vehicle maintenance records diligently for compliance purposes
Experience
- Proven experience driving commercial vehicles such as buses or school transportation is highly preferred
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities
- Experience working with children or seniors in a childcare or senior care setting demonstrates valuable familiarity with customer service and behavior management
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems to assist with basic troubleshooting and maintenance checks
- Knowledge of local traffic laws, safety regulations, and best practices for paratransit or school bus driving
- Ability to handle challenging situations calmly while maintaining professionalism and ensuring passenger safety
