HNTB is seeking a Resiliency Planner providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise on climate resilience, adaptation planning, infrastructure risk assessment, and asset management practices for transportation and infrastructure clients. The ideal candidate brings proven experience leading climate vulnerability assessments, analyzing asset inventories and climate risk data to prioritize capital improvements. This position will support business development activities, proposal development, client engagement, and thought leadership initiatives related to resiliency and sustainable infrastructure planning.
The Resiliency Planner is responsible for applying planning strategies utilizing various technologies and tools to gather and analyze data, assess outcomes, and develop reporting and visuals to effectively communicate findings. This position performs tasks for planning projects including research, studies, and documentation, coordinating with multi-discipline team members, from concept development through project completion. This position directs the technical production of planning assignments as task assignee and may serve as a Project Manager on a limited basis for select medium and large-scale projects; and/or coordinates with the project manager, project designer and other disciplines on multiple large scale and complex transportation planning, urban design, or landscape architectural projects to ensure that the client's technical requirements of projects are fully met.
What You’ll Do:

Leads aspects of internal and external coordination with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.

Leads client meetings, participates in client meetings and interactions.

Conducts or directs research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning, and formulates recommendations.

Develops conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects

Leads tasks with minimal direction related to the preparation and production of technical plans, studies, written reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.

Leads public and stakeholder engagement and presents information to the community.

Leads coordination with clients, sub-consultants, and in-house personnel on a regular basis to complete assigned tasks.

Mentors and provides direction on the work of less experienced staff.

Coordinates the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’s for projects.

Writes major sections of and leads production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects. Also coordinates and synthesizes the contributions of others.

Provides work direction and leads Planners and support staff on assigned projects.

Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.

Develops planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios, and perform project analysis.

Leads planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.

Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:

Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 8 years related professional experience, or
-
Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 7 yrs of relevant experience
What You’ll Bring:

Leads and directs technical tasks for climate resilience, adaptation planning, infrastructure risk assessment, and asset management.

Communicates and collaborates across a multi-discipline environment of planners, engineers, architects and stakeholders.

Provides consultation on research approaches, evaluation methodologies, and conclusions to make recommendations to less experienced staff or clients.

Oversees the preparation of reports and provides consultation on structure and content, including conducting quality reviews. Presents and defends reports to audiences.

Manages client meetings and oversees preparation of meeting materials without oversight from others.
What We Prefer:
-
Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.
-
Professional Engineer (PE), American Institute of Certified Planner (AICP), Professional Transportation Planner (PTP), Certified Environmental Professional (CEP), Envision (ENV SP), Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP)
-
At least 6-8 years experience leading resiliency and adaptation planning projects

Experience conducting and applying climate vulnerability assessments to prioritize capital improvements

The approximate pay range for New York is $119,989.38 - $187,675.71. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position based on all selected locations within the state at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
