Position Summary
Equala Therapeutics is seeking a Director of Research. This will be a senior executive responsible for leading and overseeing research activities pertaining to proprietary biologic therapeutic manufacturing technology. The Director of Research
will provide scientific leadership for the discovery, development, and validation of therapeutic products and platform technologies, ensuring that research programs align with the Company's strategic, scientific, regulatory, and commercial objectives.
The Director of Research will direct a multidisciplinary research team, establish collaborations external partners, and guide the development into commercially viable products. The position reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer and will be working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and executive leadership team.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Environmental Sciences, Chemical Engineering or a closely related scientific discipline from an accredited institution. The successful incumbent will have demonstrated academic and professional background in Molecular Biology, including experience with molecular techniques, genomics, genetic engineering, synthetic biology, or related fields. Furthermore, there is an expectation of a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a government scientist at a federal, state, provincial, or equivalent governmental research institution. The incumbent must have a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible scientific research leadership experience. Also expected is a strong record of scientific achievement, including peer-reviewed publications, patents, grant awards, or technology development accomplishments. Because this is a leadership position, the successful candidate will have a proven record managing multidisciplinary scientific teams and research programs as well as having excellent written and oral communication skills.
Additional qualifications include biotechnology product development, regulatory science and compliance, technology transfer and commercialization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Scientific Leadership, which involves developing and executing the Company's research strategy in alignment with corporate goals, identifying emerging scientific opportunities and technologies relevant to Equala Therapeutics' mission, leading the design, execution, and evaluation of research programs. Establishing scientific priorities and allocating resources to maximize research productivity.
2. Research Program Management to include directing and overseeing all laboratory and research activities, developing annual research plans, budgets, milestones, and performance metrics, ensuring research programs meet established timelines and deliverables as well as evaluating research outcomes and recommend continuation, modification, or termination of projects.
3. Research supervisor and Mentor, which means the VP of Research will also recruit, mentor, supervise, and evaluate research personnel, foster a culture of scientific excellence, innovation, collaboration, and integrity, support professional development and training of scientific staff.
Due to the nature of Equala Therapeutics mission, Director of Research will maintain productive relationships with government agencies, research institutions, and strategic partners. Identify and pursue grant, contract, and cooperative agreement opportunities. Represent the Company in scientific meetings, conferences, and regulatory interactions.
The Director of Research will be responsible for Product Development and Commercialization. This means the incumbent will collaborate with business, regulatory, manufacturing, and clinical teams to advance products toward commercialization, support development of intellectual property strategies, participate in due diligence activities, licensing discussions, and strategic partnerships. An essential component of the duties is responsibility for Compliance and Quality. This includes ensuring all research activities comply with applicable regulations, safety requirements, ethical standards, and Company policies, maintaining appropriate laboratory documentation and quality systems and, finally, supporting audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions as required.
Performance Expectations
The Director of Research
will be expected to establish and execute a comprehensive research strategy within six months of appointment. Meet annual research milestones and budget objectives. Generate intellectual property and scientific publications supporting Company growth. Develop and maintain productive external collaborations. Advance Company technologies from research through development and commercialization stages.
Compensation
Compensation will be competitive and includes base salary, which depends on how well the successful applicant meets requirements. The range is $140K to $150K. There will be opportunities for performance-based bonus, equity participation, including stock options or restricted stock grants.
It must be understood by the incumbent that benefits package will need to be approved by the Board of Directors.
