An established nonprofit organization is seeking an experienced Accountant to oversee the day-to-day financial operations of a mission-driven organization. This position is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys managing the complete accounting cycle, ensuring financial accuracy, and providing meaningful financial reporting to executive leadership and the Board of Directors.
This role requires someone who is organized, detail-oriented, analytical, and comfortable working independently while collaborating with leadership and department managers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage all daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate financial records.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes.
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports.
- Develop financial reports and presentation materials for the Board of Directors.
- Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts.
- Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Support budget preparation and ongoing budget monitoring.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of program and fee-generated revenues.
Experience
- Proven accounting and finance experience with a strong background in corporate accounting principles and practices
- Knowledge of GAAP, double entry bookkeeping, and regulatory compliance requirements
- Familiarity with QuickBooks Online accounting software; proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential
- Experience working within non-profit organizations or governmental entities is highly desirable
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity while ensuring adherence to compliance standards
- Excellent analytical skills with the capacity to interpret complex financial data for strategic decision-making
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience with nonprofit accounting strongly preferred.
- Experience managing organizations whose primary revenue is fee-for-service or fee-generated income highly preferred.
- Strong understanding of: QuickBooks Online, General Ledger, A/P, A/R, Financial Reporting, Month-End Close, Budgeting, Internal Controls, Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills.
