Works in a team environment to schedule appointments and perform all check-in processes accurately and appropriately for all CMU Health Services patients (multiple clinics, multiple providers). Enters medical insurance and demographic information into the electronic medical record. Collects copays and past due balances. Performs daily reconciliation and reporting of payments. Stays current on basic health insurance specifics, guidelines, and rules. Maintains the confidentiality, security, and organization of CMU Health Services medical records. Releases patient information as appropriate following HIPAA and FERPA guidelines. Performs a variety of basic office duties.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
Three years of qualifying experience or a combination of education and experience that equates to three years.
Experience with Microsoft Word.
Customer service experience.
Organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to project a positive attitude.
Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines with accurate results.
Ability to compose, proofread and edit correspondence.
Preferred Qualifications
Associates degree in medical office secretarial or similar program
Experience with electronic medical record systems and scanners Knowledge of SAP
Knowledge of Epic (EMR)
Experience using website resources such as WebDennis, Champs, etc
Duties & Responsibilities
Monitors and manages medical clinic schedules for multiple Providers according to Provider specifics and availability.
Schedules patient appointments for all CMU Clinics while following all scheduling guidelines.
Obtains insurance and demographic information and enters it into the electronic medical record with high accuracy.
Verifies insurance coverage and policy information using various insurance company websites (Web Dennis, Champs, etc).
Maintains basic knowledge regarding CMU medical insurance participation, insurance guidelines and pre-authorization processes.
Completes all check-in processes, collection processes and reconciliation processes with a high degree of accuracy.
Answers phones, transfers calls, prepares/changes voice mail and triage messages.
Acts as the medical records custodian, releasing information as appropriate following HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
Participates in team workflow and other problem-solving initiatives for efficiency and effectiveness.
Participates in training of new employees/student workers on electronic medical record and general office processes and procedures.
Participates in regular communication with clinical staff and billing staff to help ensure efficient workflow between departments.
Provides input for development and implementation of procedures, systems, and policies as it relates to the revenue cycle. Assists in supervision and assists in providing direction to student employees.
Completes all medical record scanning and copying.
Composes and mails various office correspondence.
Supports and assists with scheduling of incoming and outgoing referrals.
Performs other duties as assigned.
