The Altoona Campus is seeking an Aquatic Fitness Instructor to join our team!
Our aquatic fitness program is a valued part of our community. For many of our members, class is not just about exercise, but a place where people show up for each other. It’s where they move their bodies, take care of their health, and stay connected to a group of people who notice when they’re there and when they’re not.
Our instructors are central to making our community possible. They don’t just lead workouts- they help build relationships, encourage consistency, and create an environment where people feel welcomed, supported, and genuinely seen.
We’re looking for someone who enjoys movement, enjoys people, and understands that fitness can improve not only physical health, but also mental and emotional well-being. Whether your style is upbeat and social or more structured and fitness-focused, we value instructors who bring energy, professionalism, and their own personality to the pool.
-
Arrive about 15 minutes before each scheduled class to set up equipment and welcome participants.
- Lead safe, engaging 45-minute aquatic fitness classes.
- Plan and deliver well-rounded workouts that include cardiovascular conditioning, strength training, flexibility, balance, and mobility.
- Create appropriate music playlists that match the pace, energy, and flow of each class.
- Adapt exercises to accommodate a wide range of fitness levels, abilities, and physical limitations.
- Clearly demonstrate movements and provide simple, encouraging instruction throughout class.
- Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants.
- Build positive relationships with participants while maintaining a professional instructor presence.
- Monitor participant safety and encourage proper form throughout class.
- Set up, clean, and properly store all aquatic fitness equipment before and after class.
- Communicate any equipment, maintenance, or safety concerns to facility staff in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality. When unable to teach a scheduled class, instructors are expected to arrange for a qualified substitute and notify the supervisor, except in the case of an emergency.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
-
Previous experience leading aquatic fitness, group fitness, or wellness programs preferred.
- Strong understanding of human movement and basic exercise principles (such as anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, or related knowledge).
- Ability to independently plan and lead safe, effective, and engaging workouts.
- Strong communication skills and comfort leading groups of varying ages and abilities.
- Dependable, punctual, and professional.
- Comfortable working in a community-focused environment with strong member relationships.
- A genuine interest in helping others improve their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
-
We have a true sense of community where members know one another and genuinely look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming new ones.
