The Food Service Worker II prepares, cooks, and serves food while maintaining high standards of customer service. This role provides food preparation and cooking; patient orders and patient tray review; delivery service; cashiering; while ensuring compliance with all state and county health and safety regulations.
The Food Service Worker II demonstrates excellent customer service in that his/her attitude and actions are always consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of Covenant and the commitment to Extraordinary Care for Every Generation.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Greet and communicate professionally with customers, peers, and leaders, ensuring the best representation of Covenant HealthCare and the Nutrition Services department.

Ensure timely and accurate food service and delivery while observing all food handling, safety, and sanitation guidelines.

Prepare, grill, and cook food according to recipes, instructions, and nutritional guidelines.

Resolve customer complaints promptly.

Assist with food stocking, inventory management, and replenishing supplies.

Maintain cleanliness of floors, equipment, and work surfaces.

Operate the POS system for payment transactions, ensuring correct change and receipts. Balance cash drawer at the end of each shift.

Verify meal pass authenticity and prevent counterfeit paper money.

Effectively use communication tools (headsets, phones, POS systems) for efficient operations.

Process food orders, nourishments, tray tickets, and other related food supply requests as required.

Adhere to dietary safety protocols and ensure food compliance with various patient diets.

Follow hand hygiene guidelines before entering patient rooms.

Assist with quality audits to ensure compliance with dietary guidelines.

Support patients with meal service, including explaining room service, special diets, ordering, and meal selection.

Collaborate with dietitians to clarify patient food choices.

Communicate tray ticket changes and assist with meal tray delivery to patient units.

Coordinate with department staff, patient service unit teams, patients, and guests to meet patient needs.

Assist with tray line operations and meal flow.

Participate in nutrition and dietary training sessions.

Assist with Food Service Worker I duties and catering tasks as needed.

Other Duties as assigned.

Must be available and dependable for flexible scheduling of work hours, weekends and holidays.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent required� �Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in food preparation, cooking, serving, or cashiering/cash handling required.

ServSafe certification (or completion within 6 months of hire/transfer) required.

Pass Covenant dietary/nutrition competency test within 6 months of hire/transfer required (if performing Hospitality Ambassador duties).

Previous work experience following recipes and dietary/nutritional guidelines preferred.
