Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by sterilizing and arranging surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment according to strict aseptic techniques.
- Assist physicians during procedures by passing instruments, suturing wounds, and managing surgical tools with precision.
- Maintain a sterile environment by adhering to infection prevention protocols and hospital policies on healthcare infection control.
- Monitor vital signs and physiological data during surgeries to support patient stability and safety.
- Collect data related to surgical procedures, including documentation of patient care activities and instrument counts in electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or other EMR platforms.
- Operate medical equipment safely and efficiently, ensuring proper sterilization and maintenance for optimal performance.
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and surgical procedures across various specialties such as orthopedic surgery, endoscopy, neurosurgery, cardiovascular surgery assistance, and pediatrics.
Experience
- Prior experience working as a Surgical Scrub Technician or in an operating room environment is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise in handling surgical instruments, medical equipment sterilization, and aseptic techniques.
- Familiarity with hospital information systems such as Epic or other EMR/EHR platforms for documentation purposes.
- Proven ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments like emergency medicine or critical care units such as ICU or PICU.
- Strong analysis skills for monitoring patient vital signs and responding promptly to physiological changes during procedures.
- Knowledge of infection control practices specific to hospital settings including orthopedic surgery, cardiovascular procedures, neurosurgery assistance, and treatment of fractures.
