E.P. Ferris & Associates is looking to add qualified candidates to our team of Construction Inspection professionals. Our firm has been providing professional engineering and surveying service to the central Ohio market for more than 35 years. The continued growth of central Ohio has afforded our firm the opportunity to add team members with the goal of assisting our clients build quality infrastructure.
We are accepting resumes for full-time Construction Inspectors who would like to join our Municipal Department and assist with some Civil Engineering projects in the central Ohio area.
What You'll Do:
Construction & Utility Inspections
- Inspect and oversee construction and maintenance of streets, alleys, sidewalks, ADA/handicap ramps, and related improvements to confirm procedures and materials meet project requirements.
- Inspect installation of utility infrastructure including water lines, sanitary sewer lines, storm sewer systems, traffic signals and lighting for conformance to plans and specifications.
- Inspect street work at key phases including sub-grade/base preparation, final grading, curb and gutter forms, drain tile installation, paving operations (concrete/asphalt), and concrete curing methods.
- Inspect sanitary and storm sewer construction and repairs, and interpret plans/specifications for contractors as needed.
Field Testing & Verification
- Perform material testing and quality checks, including:
- Concrete air-entrainment testing
- Slump testing for workability
- Backfill checks for settlement
- Aggregate checks for specification compliance
- Measure distances and dimensions to verify accuracy.
- Verify levels, alignment, and elevations of installations.
Documentation & Reporting
- Track quantities of materials received and used during assigned periods.
- Maintain a daily log of inspection and construction activity.
- Prepare progress reports and documentation of completed work.
- Prepare water line documentation after installation, including descriptions, survey plans, and water line layouts.
- Collect and submit samples of unapproved materials for laboratory testing.
Customer/Community Support & Follow-Up
- Investigate complaints (e.g., broken sidewalks, potholes, structural repair needs).
- Inspect final cleanup and site restoration work.
Additional Duties (as assigned)
- Inspect concrete structures such as manholes, catch basins, headwalls and pipe.
- Observe hydrostatic testing of proposed water lines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED, and
- One (1) year of experience in construction, construction inspection, or field testing of materials related to hard infrastructure (examples include: streets/roadways/bridges/large parking areas; sewer or water line installation; street light installation; water tank construction).
Substitution:
30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of significant coursework in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field may substitute for the required experience.
