Sign Factory is seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Designer to support the design, fabrication, permitting, and installation of custom electrical signs, monument signs, pole signs, digital displays, sign structures, and related foundations.
The ideal candidate will have experience designing structural and civil components for fabricated products, steel structures, concrete foundations, and exterior construction projects. This position will work closely with our project managers, fabricators, installers, licensed engineers, general contractors, architects, and public-agency plan reviewers.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering drawings, shop drawings and construction details for fabricated sign structures.
- Design or assist with the design of concrete footings, foundations, anchor-bolt layouts, baseplates, steel poles, support frames, and mounting systems.
- Prepare structural and civil design drawings for monument signs, pole signs, electronic message centers, wall signs, and specialty sign structures.
- Review architectural plans, site plans, specifications, surveys, and project requirements.
- Perform or assist with wind-load, seismic, structural, and foundation calculations.
- Develop fabrication-ready drawings for Sign Factory’s production team.
- Coordinate designs with electrical requirements, access panels, raceways, conduits, and sign components.
- Prepare permit drawings and respond to plan-check corrections from cities, counties, school districts, military installations, and other public agencies.
- Conduct occasional site visits to verify dimensions, existing conditions, access, utilities, and installation requirements.
- Coordinate with California-licensed professional engineers when signed and stamped engineering documents are required.
- Maintain organized project files, engineering calculations, drawing revisions, and approval records.
- Help standardize engineering details for commonly fabricated sign types.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, architectural engineering.
- Three or more years of civil, structural, construction, or engineering-design experience.
- Experience with steel structures, concrete foundations, anchor bolts, baseplates, welded assemblies, and fabricated products.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar computer-aided design software.
- Familiarity with California Building Code requirements and ASCE 7 wind and seismic design standards.
- Ability to create architectural, structural, civil, electrical, and fabrication drawings.
- Experience preparing permit submittals and responding to plan-check comments.
- Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, materials, and constructability.
- Excellent written communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Highly Desirable Experience
- Engineering or design experience involving electrical signs, monument signs, pole signs, digital displays, canopies, light structures, or similar fabricated products.
- Experience with structural calculation software.
- Engineer-in-Training certification.
- California Professional Civil Engineer license (required).
- Arizona Professional Engineer license (extra).
- Experience working on commerical, school, municipal, military, or federal government projects.
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills.
