Grind Athlete Performance (athlete performance) and Vital Strength & Performance (adult fitness) are rapidly growing training businesses under one roof in Orange, CT. We are known for high-quality coaching, evidence-based programming, and a strong community built around helping people perform at their best.
We are seeking a full-time Performance Coach to deliver high-quality training sessions across both Vital Strength and Performance and Grind Athlete Performance. This role supports adult semi-private and group training as well as youth, middle school, high school, and college athlete performance sessions, with a strong focus on coaching quality, session execution, client experience, and retention
Position Overview
The Performance Coach will primarily coach morning and afternoon/evening sessions, helping create a consistent, energetic, and professional training environment for both adult members and athletes.
The role is ideal for a coach who is strong on the floor, confident leading groups, and able to coach different ages, abilities, and training goals with professionalism and attention to detail.
Primary responsibilities
- Lead and assist with semi-private, small-group, and group training sessions for adult clients and athletes across morning and afternoon/evening blocks.
- Coach safe, effective, high-energy sessions with clear instruction, strong cueing, and appropriate regressions and progressions for different ability levels.
- Execute training programs as written and maintain consistency in session flow, timing, and coaching standards.
- Build strong relationships with adult members, athletes, and families through professionalism, encouragement, and clear communication.
- Track attendance, key performance data, and relevant client or athlete notes so leadership can monitor engagement, progress, and retention.
- Support onboarding, warm-ups, movement prep, strength sessions, conditioning, testing, and recovery work as needed.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe training environment before, during, and after sessions.
- Communicate any client concerns, athlete issues, attendance patterns, or retention risks to leadership quickly and professionally.
- Represent the culture and standards of both brands with energy, reliability, and professionalism on the training floor.
Schedule expectations
This is a full-time coaching role with primary coverage in early mornings and afternoon/evening training blocks. The schedule is designed to support peak adult training times and after-school athlete sessions, so candidates must be comfortable with split-shift style workdays and high-energy coaching across multiple session types.
Ideal candidate profile
The ideal candidate is a coach who can command a room, connect with people quickly, and coach both adults and athletes with confidence and care. Strong candidates are organized, punctual, growth-minded, and able to balance technical coaching with relationship-building and customer service.
Performance expectations
Success in this role means sessions start on time, members and athletes feel coached and cared for, and the training floor runs with consistency and professionalism. The coach is expected to contribute to retention by creating a positive experience, building trust, and communicating issues early so leadership can act before clients or athletes disengage.
What this role is not
This is not primarily a desk or sales role. It is a hands-on coaching position centered on delivering excellent sessions, supporting member and athlete results, and helping the business scale through high-level execution on the floor.
