Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Companion (Life Skills Level 1 Worker) to support individuals with developmental disabilities, including autism and other disabilities, in their daily lives. This role is vital in fostering independence, building life skills, and promoting community engagement. Responsibilities
- Assist individuals with activities of daily living (ADLs), such as grooming, dressing, eating, and personal hygiene
- Support behavioral health needs through behavior management techniques and positive reinforcement strategies
- Facilitate social interactions and communication using skills like American Sign Language or other communication methods
- Provide transportation assistance by safely driving clients to appointments, activities, or community outings
- Collect data on progress toward goals, documenting observations accurately for care planning and reporting purposes
- Assist with medication administration following prescribed protocols and safety procedures
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote skill development, socialization, and community participation
- Support children and adults in home and community settings with caregiving tasks and developmental support
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, or behavioral health needs
- Knowledge of special education principles and behavior management techniques
- Proficiency in communication skills, including American Sign Language or alternative communication methods
- Home & community care experience that demonstrates adaptability and compassion
- Ability to assist with ADLs effectively while maintaining client dignity and independence
- Strong caregiving skills combined with patience, empathy, and active listening abilities
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record for transportation duties
- Ability to collect accurate data for progress tracking and reporting purposes
- Familiarity with medication administration procedures and safety protocols
- Experience working in social work or related fields is a plus
