Axial Energy is a technical services and engineering firm supporting utility-scale renewable energy projects across North America. We represent project owners by providing independent field oversight, quality monitoring, and documentation support on utility scale energy construction sites.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Civil Superintendent to oversee and support field construction activities on a major solar project near Decatur, IL. This role represents the project owner in the field, ensuring quality assurance, compliance with design and engineering standards, and effective contractor oversight throughout civil construction phase.
This position requires temporary residence near the project site throughout completion. Axial provides mobilization assistance and per diem allowance. Additionally, a company vehicle will be furnished for project-related use and daily commute with fuel included.
Compensation will be based on experience.
This position is not a craft construction role.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor civil construction for compliance with project drawings, specifications, and engineering standards.
- Verify contractor adherence to approved quality control plans and procedures.
- Produce daily reports, photo documentation, and inspection records.
- Identify, document, and report non‑conformance issues.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering teams, and contractor personnel.
- Monitor contractor safety practices and escalate concerns when necessary.
- Support punch list development, deficiency resolution, and project closeout.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in civil, mechanical, or construction inspection roles.
- Experience working on solar, civil, utility, or heavy construction sites.
- Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and field documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently in a site-based role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience inspecting pile installation or foundation systems.
- Solar or renewable energy construction experience.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- NICET, ICC, or similar inspection credentials (not required).
Physical Requirements & Working Environment
- Ability to work outdoors on an active construction site for full shifts (8–12 hours).
- Ability to walk long distances and traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and move safely around heavy equipment.
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach to observe and document installation activities.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs (field tools, documentation materials).
- Regular exposure to weather conditions, noise, vibration, dust, and heavy equipment.
- Required use of PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, gloves, proper footwear, and hearing protection.
