Job Description
We are seeking a motivated general laborer to join our shop manufacturing steel rule rotary cutting dies. No prior die-making experience is required — this is an entry-level position with full training provided. Job placement and training may take place in any department of the shop based on business needs, and you should be prepared to learn tasks across multiple areas rather than a single fixed role.
Depending on where you're placed, day-to-day duties may include:
Working in the ruling department, bending and forming steel rule to fit precision patterns burned into wooden cylinders or flat boards, driving steel rule into the burned wood pattern with a mallet, and checking your work against spec sheets.
Working in the laser department, operating laser cutting equipment to burn die patterns into wood board or cylinder stock based on customer die lines and CAD files, setting up and monitoring the laser for clean, accurate burns.
Working in the steel bending machine department, operating SERVO DRIVEN and manual rule-bending machines to bend and notch steel rule to precise angles, radii, and lengths according to pattern specifications.
Working in the rubbering department, cutting, fitting, and installing ejection rubber around the steel rule so the finished die strips scrap material properly during the customer's production run.
Working in quality control / shipping and receiving, inspecting finished dies against work orders and spec sheets for accuracy and build quality, packaging and preparing dies for shipment, and receiving and logging incoming raw materials like wood stock, steel rule, and rubber.
Regardless of department, this is physically demanding, hands-on production work. You'll be on your feet for 8+ hour shifts, lifting 60+ lbs. semi-consistently, and, in some departments, swinging a 5 lb. mallet repeatedly throughout the day. Strong basic math skills are essential for reading spec sheets and work orders and converting measurements accurately. Occasional mandatory overtime (10-12 hour days) should be expected during busy periods.
We're a tight-knit shop that moves at a fast pace but takes real pride in the work we do — we manufacture high-quality tooling made entirely in the USA, and we're looking for someone who shares that same sense of craftsmanship and reliability, wherever they end up working in the shop
