Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic / Truck Technician
I65 Truck Sales
Job Overview
I65 Truck Sales is looking for a dependable and experienced Heavy-Duty Diesel Mechanic / Truck Technician to join our shop team.
This position is ideal for a mechanic who enjoys working on a variety of semi-trucks, commercial trucks, trailers, and diesel equipment. You will be responsible for diagnosing mechanical issues, completing repairs and maintenance, and helping prepare trucks and equipment for sale.
Our inventory is constantly changing, so you'll have the opportunity to work on different makes, models, engines, and truck configurations rather than servicing the same fleet every day.
We're looking for someone who can diagnose problems, work efficiently, and take pride in getting equipment repaired correctly.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, suspension, steering, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and other heavy-duty truck components.
- Perform inspections and identify mechanical or safety issues on incoming trucks and equipment.
- Troubleshoot check-engine lights, electrical problems, air system issues, starting problems, and other mechanical concerns.
- Perform routine maintenance, including:
- Oil and filter changes
- Brake repairs and adjustments
- Tire and wheel service
- Batteries and electrical repairs
- Suspension components
- Shocks and steering components
- Fluids and preventive maintenance
- HVAC repairs and servicing
- Repair and service Class 6–8 trucks, tractor-trailers, commercial vehicles, and trailers.
- Perform welding, fabrication, cutting, and minor modifications when needed.
- Use diagnostic equipment, wiring diagrams, schematics, and service information to accurately troubleshoot problems.
- Prepare trucks and equipment to be safe, operational, and ready for resale.
- Perform test drives and operational checks following repairs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
- Communicate needed repairs, parts, and mechanical concerns with management.
- Assist with moving trucks and equipment around the lot and shop as needed.
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a diesel mechanic, heavy-duty truck mechanic, fleet technician, or similar position preferred.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel engines and heavy-duty truck systems.
- Experience diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems.
- Knowledge of air brakes, suspension, steering, electrical systems, and drivetrain components.
- Experience using diesel diagnostic software and scan tools is preferred.
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic equipment safely.
- Comfortable working on multiple truck makes and models.
- Ability to troubleshoot and work independently.
- Dependable with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- CDL is a plus but not required.
