FRYSC AmeriCorps – Youth Mental Health Connector (1200 hours)
FRYSC AmeriCorps Mental Health is a pilot program. The position description supports activity that addresses strengthening resilience and mental health resources for students. Need as identified by the school’s Youth Service Center and counseling team will guide the activity of the AmeriCorps connector.
The FRYSC AmeriCorps identifies basic needs deficits in housing, food, and mental health supports as barriers to learning. Our program engages caring and compassionate services to support students in Kentucky schools to ensure they are ready to learn to the best of their ability. Members seek opportunities to strengthen students and families in support of their host Family Resource and Youth Services Centers or nonprofit mission.
Members participate in and lead service projects, recruit and manage members, receive professional development, life skills and civic engagement education provided by AmeriCorps.
This is an AmeriCorps position, which provides an education award upon satisfactory completion of service to the FRYSC AmeriCorps and host site.
Position Title: FRYSC AmeriCorps Youth Mental Health Connector
Service Location: Anderson County High - Bearcat Youth Services Center or After School Program. Off-site service is allowable under FRYSC AmeriCorps policy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Recurring access to vulnerable populations. Works with assigned students to address basic needs, social-emotional skills, and academic support.
- Work with individual or small groups of students to share strategies to improve mental health, life skills and academic progress to address chronic absenteeism and help students stay on track for graduation.
- Works with the FRYSC Coordinator to support FRYSC, school and district programs in support of removing non-cognitive barriers to education and strengthening students and families within their communities.
- Seeks opportunities to build strong relationships with host site and FRYSC community partners who support the FRYSC goal of removing nonacademic barriers to learning by assisting with programs in support of education and strengthening students and families.
- Adheres to partner site and FRYSC AmeriCorps guidelines for maintaining a safe environment for students, families and colleagues.
- Maintains and reports accurate and confidential records of student progress and Member service activities.
- Communicates relevant academic and other service activity to site supervisors, instructional teams and FRYSC AmeriCorps staff via regular professional meetings and through reports.
- Manages and/or recruits a minimum of 8 volunteers for projects benefitting the partner community.
- Completes FRYSC AmeriCorps approved training.
- Speaks to civic organizations about experience in AmeriCorps service.
- Participates in mandatory meetings with FRYSC AmeriCorps.
- Participates in 9/11 Day of Service, MLK Day of Service and AmeriCorps Week and other service projects as directed by FRYSC AmeriCorps.
Other Conditions:
- Occasional travel and overnight travel required for program training.
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
- Occasional teleservice may be required when host site is not open.
Pay: $1,711.00 per month
