Education and Experience: A Graduate degree in Human Services or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree and several years of Human Services experience at a professional level. Applicant must work positively with staff and program participants and have strong organizational, oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of alternative communication, positive behavioral supports, and DSP Certification are highly desirable.
Responsibilities: This list is neither complete nor exhaustive but indicates general areas of responsibilities: Flexibility and sound judgment are required to respond to unanticipated needs.
To assure that the support services provided by the program staff are consistent with the needs and interests of each individual served. The Program Director will:
- Review and consult with the teaching staff on all the Individual Plans and progress on the expected outcomes.
- Assure availability and dissemination of current and relevant materials including assessment instruments, catalogues, research publications, and journals.
- Obtain and coordinate ancillary services, i.e., OT, PT, Nursing Consulting and Speech Therapy as needed.
- Participate in meetings that relate to the day program, as needed. Review and circulate to staff with direction and guidance to appropriate library and professional resources.
- Provide consultation and support to teaching staff for general and specific program issues.
- Ensure that all individual support services reflect agency policy and procedure.
- Observe in each classroom regularly.
- Ensure that implementation of the objectives for each participant is consistent with the Individual Plan as written.
- Assure that quarterly progress reports on the annual plan are supported by adequate data records.
- Know the history, living situation and specific needs of all program participants.
- Develop a warm and personal relationship with each program participant and encourage a free flow of information.
- Develop a written system to track progress toward meeting goals and objectives and developing new ones.
- It is recommended that Program Directors complete Direct Support Professional Certification or have significant familiarity with its modules.
- Demonstrate understanding and knowledge of safe work practices based on behavioral supports guidelines and regulations.
- Perform all duties necessary in filling staff positions in conformance with agency policies.
To provide leadership and supervision. The Program Director will:
- Initiate all necessary personnel actions in conformance with personnel policy.
- Conduct performance appraisal on all regular staff at least annually; submit completed form, signed, to personnel file.
- Conduct regular staff meetings for disseminating program information, discussing policies/procedures, etc.
To ensure that program staff receive in-service training to increase/improve/maintain program skills, the Program Director will:
- Coordinate and develop staff training relevant to the health, safety, and advancement of program participants.
- Announce or post information on workshops or conferences and approve and arrange attendance.
- Assure that annual, required training occurs promptly and is documented.
To encourage and practice open, positive relationships with homes and agencies. The Program Director will:
- Work with the Assistant Program Director to coordinate with other professionals as needed to ensure that all aspects of practices on behalf of the individual are as consistent as possible between settings.
- Support and assist the teaching staff to coordinate programs with those in home settings.
- Work with the Assistant Program Director to identify and communicate with other community agencies, as needed to increase or to enhance support services.
- Work with the Assistant Director to represent the program/agency at community meetings or presentations.
- Maintain productive, positive relationships with funding agencies.
To perform administrative duties as necessary for effective functioning of the programs. The Program Director will:
- Maintain regular communication with your supervisor.
- Attend meetings of the Program Directors.
- Plan and coordinate staffing patterns.
- Maintain CARF accreditation for the programs.
- Participate in a quarterly review meeting of Program Policies and Procedures Manuals with Amicus Program Directors and additionally, update the Case Management Program Policies & Procedures Manual on file in the Corporate Offices.
- Ensure that all policies and methods necessary to program operations are developed and implemented in accordance with good management principles.
- Maintain a program evaluation system.
- Coordinate discipline or terminations in accordance with Amicus Personnel Policies.
- Provide input and assistance on budget development, monitoring, and grant preparation.
- Coordinate with the Accounting Manager and Business Manager on budget, expenditures, employee hours, and financial issues.
- Develop long-range goals and objectives.
- Collect information on a timely basis.
- Maintain a system for on-call or substitute staff.
- Design and maintain a system to inform consumers, residential providers, employers and others of official program closure. This design must include closures that are announced early in the morning and include possible outages. Programs are closed only with the approval of the Executive Director.
- Take adequate security measures to protect property and equipment.
To coordinate volunteer activities as needed, the Program Director will:
- Organize orientation for volunteers.
- Maintain records of volunteer hours, work performance and assignments.
- Assure that volunteers receive recognition of and appreciation for their efforts.
To assure a means of safe and accessible transportation for program participants. The Program Director will:
- Arrange for routine maintenance, repair, inspections and licensing.
- Train staff in the safe use of program vehicles and the requirements of the Amicus Transportation policy manual.
- Procure or replace items and adaptations for the safety and comfort of program participants.
- Maintain accurate records of expenditures and maintenance.
To assure the safety and general maintenance of the program physical plant. The Program Director will:
- Arrange for required inspections.
- Coordinate with the Accounting Manager and Business Manager to procure and monitor service contracts.
- Monitor and arrange for upkeep, cleanliness, and on-going maintenance.
- Establish and monitor a safety committee and take needed action.
- Arrange for renovations as needed.
- Comply with applicable state and federal regulations and reporting requirements.
- Monitor custodial tasks and quality of work.
- Maintain services for landscaping and parking lots.
To ensure that physical plant is kept clean and attractive, the Program Director will:
- Monitor quality of cleaning and confer with the cleaning vendor as needed.
- Monitor schedule of tasks to be done routinely and adjust as needed.
- Arrange for special tasks not included in the cleaning vendor’s responsibilities.
Schedule: This is a Monday-Friday, exempt full-time position with full benefits.
