Responsibilities
- Perform medical collections such as blood draws, urine samples, and other diagnostic tests with precision and care.
- Assist in surgical procedures by preparing instruments, maintaining aseptic techniques, and monitoring anesthesia levels.
- Handle animal restraint safely and effectively during examinations, treatments, and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff.
- Manage kennel duties including cleaning, feeding, and monitoring animals’ health status to promote optimal animal husbandry practices.
- Support laboratory testing processes by preparing samples, operating veterinary equipment, and recording results accurately.
- Communicate clearly with clients regarding pet care instructions, treatment plans, and follow-up needs while providing excellent customer service.
- Maintain veterinary software records meticulously, ensuring compliance with DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) regulations and USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) standards.
- Assist with front desk responsibilities such as appointment scheduling, client check-in/out, and answering general inquiries.
- Support veterinary critical care efforts by monitoring hospitalized animals and assisting in emergency response situations.
- Contribute to a positive team environment by collaborating with veterinarians, technicians, and administrative staff to deliver exceptional pet care.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary clinic setting is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of animal anatomy, veterinary terminology, and medical-surgical procedures.
- Hands-on experience with animal restraint techniques for dogs, cats experience is desirable.
- Familiarity with veterinary software systems and laboratory equipment is essential.
- Excellent communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
- Demonstrated competence in handling pet care tasks such as dog training, animal husbandry, and general animal handling.
- Knowledge of USDA regulations and DEA compliance related to controlled substances used in veterinary medicine.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform manual tasks involving animals of various sizes.
- A proactive attitude with a passion for animal welfare and continuous learning in companion animal medicine.
