Position Summary: Under the general oversight of the assigned shift Sergeant, performs routine policy enforcement and security work in the protection of people and in the safeguarding of university property. Incumbent secures assigned property against possible loss or damage and is charged with ensuring the safety of all individuals on campus. Work is reviewed through conferences and reports for compliance with established policies, procedures, and guidelines. Performs other work as requested.

1. Patrol/Make rounds of assigned areas by foot or vehicle; watches for unauthorized people or activities; reports unusual instances to shift Sergeant; calls police for assistance if necessary.
2. Assists in traffic direction and parking for special details.
3. Provides University information; escorts Stetson community members to and from buildings and parking lots, as needed.
4. Maintains lost and found services; checks for safety, fire, and/or security hazards; monitors fire and security alarms.
5. Locks and unlocks facilities as requested by authorized person(s).
6. Prepares reports; issues traffic citations; provides disaster and emergency evaluation and management; relieves dispatcher when necessary.
7. Performs some minor building maintenance tasks, i.e., securing broken windows, turning off water, resetting 110-volt electric circuit breakers.
8. Responds to various types of building and equipment alarms; coordinating with the local Fire and Police Departments as they respond.
9. Perform similar and other position-related work as requested.

- Ability to work occasional overtime, rotating shift work, 24-hour emergency on-call status.
Required Qualifications: This position requires:
· High school diploma or GED
· Preferred Minimum: Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, or Criminology; or an equivalent combination of education and training.
· Two (2) years of military, law enforcement, or security experience; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
· Three (3) years of Level II security work or higher.
· Must possess a “Class D” security license with the State of Florida or be willing to pursue and secure such certification (State of Florida Chapter 493).
· Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record as determined by the University’s auto insurance carrier.
· Per our Tobacco Use policy (see the full policy here), all University property have been designated tobacco/smoke-free. This Policy applies twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
Work Environment:
Duties require both indoor and outdoor work; direct exposure to prevailing weather, extreme heat, humidity, and extreme cold; physical ability to endure standing and/or walking for long periods, stair climbing, bending, stooping, manual dexterity; lifting of up to fifty pounds, and perceptual demands for sound, form, depth.
