Overview
Join our dynamic hospitality team as a Hotel Maintenance Engineer and Groundskeeper, where your expertise will ensure our property operates seamlessly, providing guests with a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment. This energized role offers the opportunity to lead maintenance initiatives, troubleshoot complex systems, and oversee facility and grounds upkeep with a focus on excellence. Your proactive approach and technical skills will be vital in maintaining the highest standards of safety, functionality, and guest satisfaction.
BASIC PURPOSE: Work with the Chief Engineer to ensure prompt and efficient attention to the maintenance needs of the property. Respond to all engineering service calls, giving priority to guest requests, and maintain hotel equipment in an efficient, safe, accident-free manner.
FUNCTIONS/REPONSIBILITIES:
· Become familiar with all engineering functions and property layout, both interior and exterior
· When needed, prepare and forward any reports that are required of the Engineering Department, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
· Make daily rounds of the hotel to ensure that everything is operating correctly and in a safe manner. This includes pool and fitness center areas, kitchen and restaurant areas, parking lots, meeting and conference space, and all back-of-the-house areas,
· Respond to and handle guest requests in a courteous, efficient, safe manner.
· Perform preventive maintenance and necessary repairs an all hotel equipment, including kitchen, laundry, boiler, plumbing, pool, HVAC, electrical and guest rooms.
· Respond to all emergency situations including fire alarms, bomb threats, disasters and power failures; notify the appropriate authorities.
· Clean and maintain all equipment and work areas.
· Complete maintenance requests, take equipment and meter readings and maintain company and brand maintenance logs to ensure repair and communication of problems.
· Handle elevator breakdowns and other emergency mechanical situations.
· Determine the existence of unsafe conditions, and ensure that corrective action is taken, or reported to the Chief Engineer for further instruction/action
· Assist with maintenance of parking lot, landscaping and snow removal as needed.
· Complete any and all tasks assigned by the Chief Engineer
· When needed, assist other departments and employees with any tasks requested by a supervisor or manager
Knowledge and Skills:
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Trade school, special courses in building maintenance and construction are also highly recommended
Experience: Two years prior experience in building maintenance or related industry with maintenance supervision experience required.
Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to complete standard maintenance tasks efficiently and effectively
· Ability to maintain a calm and professional, and to exercise a high level of discretion, in all situations.
· Ability to maintain and repair HVAC, electrical and plumbing equipment
· Perform basic maintenance, renovation and construction functions
Hours Required:
· Scheduled days and times may vary based on hotel needs and staffing.
· Holidays, nights and weekends may be required.
· Must adhere to the time and attendance policies set forth by the company

Physical Job Requirements
Lifting/Pushing/Pulling/Carrying:
· Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying frequently required to respond to requests for service and repairs, moving equipment, stocking shelves, and conducting basic maintenance functions.
Bending/Kneeling:
· Frequent bending and kneeling required to perform the functions of this position.
Mobility:
· 100% mobility required to perform the functions required of this position
Standing/Walking:
· Standing and/or walking for up to entire duration of 8 hour shift may be required. This is an active and physical position
Climbing Stairs:
· Ability to frequently ascend and descend stairways is required.
Ladders:
· Use of ladders will be frequently required in this position.
Work Environment Inside/Outside:
· Position requires the performance of maintenance work which may include inside and outside locations.
· Extreme heat or Cold based on local climate will have to be dealt with on a daily basis.
Hearing/Vision/Speech:
· This position requires the ability to receive, understand, implement and follow-through with direction given by supervisors and property management
· Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to adequately communicate maintenance needs
Chemicals/Agents:.
· Use of paint, pool chemicals, oil, pesticides and all other hotel based chemicals.
Protective Clothing Type:
· Periodic use of gloves, goggles or other protective gear when handling chemicals or hazardous materials.
Equipment Operation:
· Basic construction, renovation and maintenance tools
· Radios and communication equipment
· Cleaning machinery such as carpet machines and floor strippers
Other Considerations
· Personal Appearance and grooming are key due to the high guest interaction nature of this position.
