Job Overview
Little Giant Pediatrics is seeking to contract a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) as an independent contractor to provide daily nursing care to medically fragile children in our Prescribed Pediatric Extended Care (PPEC) facility. The RN will play a vital role in monitoring each child’s health, administering treatments, and supporting families, all within a nurturing, team-based pediatric environment.

Responsibilities
- Performs nursing assessments and evaluates findings.
- Prepares clinical notes, progress notes, and ensures accurate charting.
- Provides services in accordance with the patient’s plan of care.
- Provides services requiring substantial specialized nursing skills.
- Initiates appropriate preventative and ongoing nursing procedures.
- Informs personnel and DON of changes in the condition and needs of the patient.
- Counsels with the patient and family in meeting nursing and related needs.
- Participates in and presents in-service trainings.
- Processes orders and notifies physician of patient needs and changes in condition.
- Completes certification/recertification orders as specified in facility policy, as assigned.
- Carries out and accurately charts actions/interventions as outlined in the plan of care.
- Determines the level and type of nursing care needed for a patient depending on condition.
- Initiates individualized care plans based on admission assessments and physician orders, as assigned.
- Involves the patient/family in plan of care development.
- Reviews, evaluates, and updates the plan of care based upon current assessments.
- Prepares discharge summaries which reflect the care provided and associated outcomes.
- Refers to PT, OT, SLP, and MSW those patients requiring their specialized skills.
Supervises and trains other clinical personnel.
- Provides appropriate information regarding the patient to agencies/individuals involved in the patient’s care.
- Directs and supervises performance of LPNs as specified, and reports findings as appropriate.
- Accrues relevant knowledge and carries out supervised practice of new skills.
Exercises discretion and maintains confidentiality, safeguarding all patient medical information.
- Attends staff meetings and patient care conferences as scheduled.
- Accurately completes charting and paperwork in a timely manner per facility policy.
- Immediately reports to the DON any patient incidents/variances or complaints.
- Demonstrates competent performance of the technical skills required to carry out patient care as ordered.
- Participates in peer review and Performance Improvement activities as requested.
- Participates in the review and revision of medical records as assigned.
- Understands and adheres to established policies/procedures.
- Reports all incomplete work assignments to DON.
- Demonstrates sound judgement and decision making.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Current RN license, issued by the State of Florida.
- Current CPR certification.
- Current First Aid certification.
- Eligible Background Screening Result from the Agency of Healthcare Administration (AHCA).
- Familiarity and competence in neonatal critical care including familiarity with ventilators, tracheostomies, feeding tubes, IV infusions, and central line care.
