POSITION: SUBSTITUTE TEACHER
STARTING DATE: August, 2026
JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs the regular teacher’s assigned responsibilities and provides instruction and supervision for students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Reports to the assigned school at the time requested by the building principal or designee.
- Implements the regular teacher’s assigned responsibilities, lesson plans, instructional activities, and classroom schedule.
- Corrects work completed by students when appropriate and time permits.
- Maintains proper discipline and a safe, positive, and productive student environment.
- Completes the substitute teacher’s report form and other required documentation.
- Prepares a summary of work completed and the day’s events for the regular teacher.
- Follows school and district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Communicates effectively and professionally with students, staff, and administrators.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must hold a valid Illinois Substitute Teaching License, Short-Term Substitute Teaching License, or other valid Illinois educator license that authorizes the individual to serve as a substitute teacher.
- Appropriate credentials and licensure must be on file with the district as required.
- Successful substitute teaching, teaching, or experience working with children preferred.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students in grades K–8.
- Ability to follow lesson plans, classroom routines, and instructional activities as provided by the regular teacher.
