Bridge Inspection Specialist I is responsible for performing work related to the statewide bridge inspection program, including obtaining and reviewing bridge inspection data, conducting bridge inspections, completing quality control reviews, addressing Federal Inspection Metric requirements, supporting scour assessments and plans of action, assisting with critical finding follow-up activities, resolving database discrepancies, and serving as a liaison between Divisions and Districts on bridge-related matters. This position assists with specialized bridge inspection activities, including fracture critical, underwater, and emergency response inspections, and learns to operate specialized bridge inspection equipment. Work is performed under the oversight of a licensed professional engineer and requires travel, contact with governmental officials, and may be physically demanding or potentially hazardous. Employees at this level follow established procedures and standard practices, with unusual issues referred to the supervisor.
Bridge Inspection Specialist II is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the statewide bridge inspection program, including managing consultant inspection contract activities, conducting bridge inspection quality control reviews, and performing and documenting routine, emergency, follow-up, and other bridge inspections. This position interprets inspection findings, recommends bridge maintenance and repair actions, proactively addresses Federal Inspection Metric requirements, assesses scour conditions and oversees scour action plans, and prepares and oversees critical finding follow-up action plans. The specialist provides guidance to employees performing bridge maintenance inspections, serves as a liaison between Divisions and District offices, performs specialized fracture critical, underwater, and emergency response inspections, and operates specialized bridge inspection equipment. Work is performed independently on assigned projects under the oversight of a licensed professional engineer, with unusual issues referred to the supervisor.

Employees at this level establish their own work plans and priorities, exercise independent judgment in resolving issues, and rarely require supervisor involvement.
Bridge Inspection Specialist IV is responsible for implementing and supporting the statewide bridge inspection program, including management of bridge inspection contracts and the performance and documentation of routine, emergency, follow-up, complex, and specialized bridge inspections. This position proactively leads Federal Inspection Metric activities, including quality control reviews, scour assessments, critical finding evaluations, and the development and oversight of associated plans of action. The specialist serves as a technical expert in bridge-related matters, provides recommendations for bridge maintenance and repair, assists with bridge planning and programming, and may train, lead, and guide the work of others. Additional responsibilities include serving as a liaison between Divisions and Districts, performing advanced fracture critical, underwater, emergency, and specialized bridge inspections statewide, operating specialized bridge inspection equipment, and serving as a qualified NBIS Team Leader. Employees at this level work with a high degree of autonomy, establish their own priorities, independently resolve complex issues, and provide leadership and technical expertise across the bridge inspection program.
