River Valley Remodelers is looking for a driven, competitive, and hands-on Canvass Department Manager to lead our door-to-door canvassing team.
This is not a sit-behind-a-desk management position. We're looking for a leader who is willing to be in the field with their team, knows how to motivate people, holds employees accountable, and understands that results matter.
The Canvass Department Manager is responsible for the overall performance of our canvassing department — including recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, field management, and lead production.
Our canvassers are often the first interaction a homeowner has with River Valley Remodelers. Your job is to build a team that can confidently knock doors, start conversations, generate interest in our remodeling services, and consistently set qualified appointments for our Sales team.
What You'll Be Doing: Lead the Canvassing Team
- Manage the day-to-day operations of our door-to-door canvassing department.
- Lead canvassers in the field and regularly knock doors alongside your team.
- Set clear expectations for activity, leads, appointments, attendance, and overall performance.
- Conduct daily team huddles and ongoing coaching.
- Keep the team motivated, focused, and competitive.
- Monitor individual and team performance and address issues quickly.
- Hold employees accountable when expectations aren't being met.
- Recognize top performers and help develop future team leaders.
- Create a positive, high-energy culture where people want to compete and succeed.
Recruit, Hire & Train
- Help continuously recruit and build the canvassing team.
- Participate in interviewing and selecting new canvassers.
- Train new hires on door approaches, scripts, homeowner communication, objection handling, and appointment setting.
- Provide hands-on field training instead of relying only on classroom instruction.
- Role-play pitches and common homeowner objections with the team.
- Identify employees who need additional coaching and create a plan to improve their performance.
- Work with HR to maintain appropriate staffing levels and address attendance or performance concerns.
Drive Lead Production
- Take ownership of the department's lead and appointment goals.
- Track daily and weekly canvassing results.
- Monitor key performance numbers including doors knocked, conversations, leads generated, appointments set, and individual canvasser performance.
- Identify trends and make adjustments when numbers aren't where they need to be.
- Select and manage canvassing territories to maximize opportunities.
- Make sure teams are working the right areas and using their time effectively.
- Work closely with the Sales and Marketing teams to ensure canvassing efforts are producing quality opportunities.
Manage Field Operations
- Build and manage weekly canvassing schedules.
- Assign teams and territories.
- Make sure canvassers are where they're supposed to be and ready to work.
- Conduct field check-ins and performance observations.
- Help coordinate transportation and field logistics when necessary.
- Ensure employees are following company policies and representing River Valley Remodelers professionally in the community.
- Handle day-to-day problems and keep the team moving.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is a leader first and isn't afraid to get into the field and show their team how it's done.
The right person is:
- Competitive and motivated by hitting goals.
- Comfortable managing and holding a team accountable.
- Confident talking to homeowners and strangers.
- High-energy and able to motivate others.
- Organized enough to manage schedules, territories, and performance numbers.
- Comfortable having difficult conversations when expectations aren't being met.
- Able to coach different personalities and experience levels.
- Reliable and consistent.
- Willing to lead from the front instead of managing from the sidelines.
Preferred Experience
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Door-to-door canvassing
- Door-to-door sales
- Roofing, windows, siding, or home improvement
- Sales management
- Canvassing management
- Field marketing
- Appointment setting
- Lead generation
- Team leadership
- Recruiting and training
Previous door-to-door experience is strongly preferred.
Experience matters, but we're also interested in proven leaders who are competitive, coachable, comfortable talking to people, and know how to get a team fired up and producing.
This Position Is a Good Fit If You:
- Like working in a fast-paced, competitive environment.
- Enjoy coaching people and watching them improve.
- Aren't afraid to knock doors yourself.
- Believe managers should lead by example.
- Can celebrate wins while still holding people accountable.
- Pay attention to numbers and know when performance needs to improve.
- Can handle rejection without letting it affect your attitude.
- Want your performance and your team's performance to directly impact your success.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Canvass Department Manager builds a team that shows up, knocks doors, sets quality appointments, and consistently hits its goals.
You'll be expected to know your numbers, know your people, and know what's happening in the field.
When production is strong, you'll work to keep the momentum going. When numbers drop, you'll be expected to identify why and take action — whether that means additional training, changing territories, adjusting schedules, getting into the field with the team, or addressing individual performance.
